SAD Support for non popular Sports

went yday to the Aspire Dome to watch the Artistic Gymnastics World Group championship.

it was really sad to see to only about 50-60 people in the indoor stadium cheering the gymnasts...

there were atheletes from India and Qatar who were performing and the best motivation for such budding gymnasts are support from the spectators which sadly was missing!

Cmon guys / gals today is the finals...please be there....to my fellow indians its ok if you all miss the IPL matches for one day.....come out and cheer the fantastic qatari and indian gymnasts in large nos.....

One other thing I heard some locals mention - that the method of disseminating information is culturally by word of mouth mainly.

They need to maybe sort that out a bit more efficiently because there are other cultures living and working here and the dissemination of information to others is very important. But understandably, they are a bit reticent about making bold announcements to all and sundry.

Some have criticized this as being too proud to inform others but it's actually not an issue of pride. It should be remembered that this is a relationship based culture, which needs to be properly understood.

/But having said that, sure - there is the likelihood that management is disorganized and lack proper communication - but like many others too.

As other posters said...its not apathy but a lack of promotion!

I live near Aspire and would happily go but where is the info????????????

It aint rocket science they could even put it on QL and I am sure Qatari would make it front page!

It’s about time they think of launching a local TV channel broadcasting in English, similar to DubaiOne in Dubai (shitty but at least somewhere to refer to obtain info of events and carefully crafted local news).

partly to blame the Qatar advertising for not promoting such events. if we could receive text msg from Qtel alike HomeRus, babyshop etc offers... then why not these impt events. its sad i missed it.

the problem is Qatar are totally inept at promoting and marketing events...look at the 2006 asian games, the least attended games in history, and they claim it was the best ever...WHATEVER Qatar....

I must say that someone here in a high position in Qatar, has no clue about schedules, plans, promotion and communication of events!

It happens all the time, no matter which event – inadequate promotion and communication!

get the word out there .. i am sure there are many people who probably don't have clue abt the event. change your status on social networking sites to "come support indian/qatari athletes at the dome tonight". call your friends and family, and make a night out of it.

personally i would blame the organizers for not promoting the event enough. if you watch cable or satellite tv here, you all must have noticed (well specially the indian viewers) how many ads are out there on indian channels abt events taking place in Dubai. qatar too needs to get aggressive with their promotion. even if people are not willing or interested in the event, the organizers could invite schools to bring students to the event, at least this would not only fill the stadium, but could also inspire children to take up the sport. at the end of Qatar can only benefit in the long term.
