Please let us know from you experts, out there the procedures that has to be done after buying the car? Will we be free to drive away the car and just wait for next registration for it to be transferred in our name. What are the documents required, taxes to be paid if any to prove the SALE & Transfer of Ownership.

We will be glad to know the procedures from the moment you handed over your payment.

Well galloper, my apology for not browsing first. At this time, I would rather not. Why...it's time consuming to read the thread and pick up each and every info then complete the puzzle. Wow...what a chore. Atleast thru this, I can gather the latest in view of the ever changing laws & processes

It's true that you will learn thru reading and be intelligent..110% sure. But at this age you have to be SMART. The trend now is "DO THINGS FAST AND ACCURATE"...You're suggestion is under "SLOW BUT SURE" i guess.....and its not my option. I will still resort with your reply once I got the time.

Great answer from 'querobles'.

The only thing i would add to his answer is that, if the original owner has a Bank Loan on the car, then go to the bank where the loan is taken from and hand the money over to the bank and NOT the owner. Make sure by speaking to an account manager that the money is being paid in to the correct account to settle the car loan, and make an appointment for two/three days later to collect the No Objection Letter from the bank.

With regard to the insurance, when you negotiate the sale price of the car ensure the remaining insurance is included in the price. Then it is just a matter of going to the insurance company office to transfer the name (should not cost more than QR75 admin fee). Then proceed to the ploice station for transfer of ownership.

Good luck and i wish you lots of safe and hassle free motoring!

:-)

Once you have paid for the car, the person who sold the car to you has to go with you to the police station and present the following documents:

1) Original registration

2) Original ID

3) Old car insurance document with his name on it

4) Car release from bank (this may take up to 5 days for the bank to issue on payment has been made assuming there was a loan involved)

You will need to bring:

1) Your original ID

2) QR 120 in an atm card or visa

3) New car insurance document with your name on it

Once you have all these documents you have to go to an office located at the back of the police station and pay QR 20 to fill a form in Arabic. He will ask for all the documents mentioned above.

Then, once this has been done you just go to the registration section inside the police station.

The entire process should not take more than 20 minutes if you are lucky.

Did you try searching before posting?

The car ownership/registration transfer topic has been discussed plenty of times in QL. Do some reading to have the idea.
