CID arrests female beggars
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested five female beggars of Arabic descent, after finding them begging in a number of Qatar’s business districts.
“The arrests were made as part of an ongoing campaign to eradicate this phenomenon alien to the Qatari society,” a spokesperson said.
After noticing two suspicious women near the Gold Souq in Al Ghanim, a patrol, including policewomen, arrested them as they tried to escape.
Another woman was picked up after begging from visitors to Deira market and two others were arrested at a commercial complex in Bin Omran.
During interrogation, they admitted that they had come to Qatar to sell “unimportant goods” and for financial assistance.
The department appealed for public co-operation, asking people to inform the “Combating Begging Section” on 4714220 and 4823455 if they find any beggars on the streets of Doha.
