Rogue Employers in Qatar - Expats beware!
It's not uncommon to come across Bangladeshi labourers being exploited and abused in the Middle East but how about Ex-pat project managers out of the UK?
Well it happened to me when I agreed to come to Doha as a project manager for a major international office fit-out company in February.
Essentially I got a 60% salary cut on arrival and the next day was told I'd be expected to work illegally without a work permit - monthly visa runs to Dubai instead. And to top it off no sight of a contract.
When I refused to work under these conditions I was fired - no explanation - no apology and of course NO PAY.
If anyone is interested in knowing who this rogue trader is email me at seanpeet at yahoo.com
I'll be updating my experiences on a regular basis as a warning to others.
Sean
Sean the list would be too long. I speak from experience too.

Dear Sean,
The irony here is the owners care a damn about what is happening in their companies, as they are filthy rich and does not bother about whether any of their companies is making profit or loss. taking advantage of this situation, the so called senior managerial capacity take advantage of the situation and fool these sponsors, I have personally seen the expat partner hiding their books of accounts or record sales books from their sponsor so that they dont need to pay a higher percentage of fees to their sponsor
secondly here the people are laid off with no reason, unfortunately the people who are laid of, will be the most efficient and qualified and experienced staff.
If at all you were to compile a black listed companies, you can count in fingers the credible companies.
Overall reason is ALL THE CORRUPT AND INEFFICIENT PEOPLE ARE PLACED IN THE RIGHT CHAIRS.
YOUR EXPERIENCE IS NOT NEW, THERE ARE SO MANY EXAMPLES OF INCIDENTS FACED BY THE PEOPLE LIKE YOU HERE.
Just I wanted to share with you.
Judging by the responses, why has a blacklist of rogue employers in Doha not been compiled? or has it?
You misunderstand my message. There is no suggestion in my message that it's any worse that a European gets cheated in this way than a Bangladeshi labourer.
I thought it was unusual - but judging by some of the responses - it's about par for the course
Yes heard the story many times from taxi drivers, semi-skilled workers etc, but very surprised for it to also to be happening in the professional western expat world. Never come accross this before and I've worked in China, Korea, HK - all over.
Seems Doha has become the new 'Costa del Crime' for British rogues.
Doesn't say that on the tin:)
Thats bad. We have to understand that theres no segeration of race when it comes to scandal. Its strange that literate people do get into the trap. Forget comparing these bangadeshi worker who could not even read english.
....but how can we judge any situation without hearing from the alleged erring co.? As an African proverb goes 'we glorify the hunters as lions don't get to say their part of the story'.
Its called Hypocricy, fanonite. :-)

Sean P, Just curious, What happens when 'u cut u r finger, or stripped in public',For the "Bangladeshi"guy it 'bleeds, feel pain and is Humiliated that order.
ur's any different coz u r "brit"?
You can be HOT or COLD to me, spare me LUKEWARM!!!!
oh well Sean ... the story of Doha ... or story of Middle East in this matter.
Hope you get fix up with new job soon ...
I'm back in London.
I don't think it would have made any difference if I had a contract or not - these guys have no respect for anything, especially the law. That's why they are in the Middle East
where are you now Sean ? Next time you should not get the paper signed first before you packed up and fly out. Whatever they promised to you , british or not ...
Yes I guessed that from those I spoke to. Sounds like you're speaking from experience mate?
NO, it all happened very quickly. The Project Director - a Brit asked me to truast him. It is in international family-owned company. Absolutely astounded me!
These crooks now hiding behind lawyers
Did you not sign any contract before they fly you out to Doha Sean?
:)
