Millionaire gives away fortune
Austrian millionaire Karl Rabeder is giving away every penny of his £3 million fortune after realising his riches were making him unhappy.
Mr Rabeder, 47, a businessman from Telfs is in the process of selling his luxury 3,455 sq ft villa with lake, sauna and spectacular mountain views over the Alps, valued at £1.4 million.
Also for sale is his beautiful old stone farmhouse in Provence with its 17 hectares overlooking the arrière-pays, on the market for £613,000. Already gone is his collection of six gliders valued at £350,000, and a luxury Audi A8, worth around £44,000.
Mr Rabeder has also sold the interior furnishings and accessories business – from vases to artificial flowers – that made his fortune.
"My idea is to have nothing left. Absolutely nothing," he told The Daily Telegraph. "Money is counterproductive – it prevents happiness to come."
Instead, he will move out of his luxury Alpine retreat into a small wooden hut in the mountains or a simple bedsit in Innsbruck.
His entire proceeds are going to charities he set up in Central and Latin America, but he will not even take a salary from these.
"For a long time I believed that more wealth and luxury automatically meant more happiness," he said. "I come from a very poor family where the rules were to work more to achieve more material things, and I applied this for many years," said Mr Rabeder.

I can live without this warmth.

money can buy the word "happiness" but not the "warmth" of happiness.

Rich & p*ssed off or Poor & p*ssed off, which would you rather be???
*****If you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything at all*****
whyte, that's not called giving, its called burying.
ok, and why would anybody even consider "money can't buy love or friends". Of course it can't. Neither can poverty.
But money buys security and comfort. and you can have or not have friends in wealth as well as in poverty.
All this BS about money being bad is said by those who do not have it, or if they do, they have some problems not even connected to money. But it is always nice to blame something or somebody other than oneself. lol
What comes around, goes around....
FS, I thought you were 66+ already ;-)

Money can Buy Parties to enjoy with friends, But money can't buy one good friend who can help you when u r sick
Money can buy valentine Gifts but Money can't buy one lover who can love you for what you are
Money can buy you Medical doctors, Medicines but money can't promise you health
there is many benefits too with Money but Logically all you need is some money to buy few clothes, food and enough for shelter and enough to help people in need.

O well good on him. Who is he giving all his money too? Can we ask him to contribute some of his wealth to cause of QLVG?..:)

are temporary and has no effect or meaning to God, after the death man carries his deeds and leaves his fortune behind :-)
...day to day concerns and one can find more time to devote for realising ones definition of happiness. Thanks for sharing this.:)
You are actually very good. You are bad only when you are Cleopatra. :)

Initially Money may give you happiness.. but when you are done with all your materialistic desires...money wont do any good..
There are many other simple things which can give you happiness...
It all depends on your definition of happiness!!
I really need to read inspiring story today, each day we learn something new from others, Money doesn't buy Happiness, friends, Love.

I think both he and his wife thinks that way..:)
As long as its all self made and not inherited...can anyone question his decision? including wife and kids?
Money provides ONLY temporary or momentary pleasure But leaves behind A long lasting unhappiness.
I strongly agree with Rabedar.....now waiting to become millionaire first then give everything in Charity!
wonder how he will be doing after a couple of year..
He has gone philosophical. I hope he finds HIS happiness. Mine is a bit different ;)
