GREEDY LANDLORD
By mocruising •
I have been in my villa since September 2002. The contact started on 1/9/2002 and it has been rolled over with increases for the past 8 years or so. We are leaving Doha at the end of June and I went to see the landlord yesterday to give him notice. I was advised that I have to pay up until the end of August despite the fact that we will be vacating at the end of July. Is this correct?
A nitice period of 1 calander manth is a must. Go to the Police, lodge an entry, take a copy of it to the bank and stop the August Check.
No, if you provide your cancelled RP he needs to return the outstanding money or dated cheques.
Depends on the terms of your rental agreement - what is your notice period?
From your limited information, if it was renewed yearly, strictly speaking, your current term would end on 31 August 2010 unless the relevant notice was given to vacate the premises earlier. If there is no notice period stated in writing, then what were your terms of your verbal agreement? Hope you have an independent witness to back you up.
