Journal Writing

I attended a workshop on creative journal writing…I find it very interesting…Just want to know how many of you are into journal writing.

Unlike a diary, which is simply a written record of your day's events, a writing journal is a an ‘exploration’ of who you are as a person today and who you’d like to become in the future. Journal writing involves recording your thoughts, feelings, experiences etc.

Don't be concerned with grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. Write so that you get your thoughts out as quickly as possible.

You probably spent time talking, sharing your thoughts, ideas, experiences, feelings, etc. with your friends or family members. The more you share with a person, the better you were able to get to know them....journal writing is pretty much the same idea. It’s an excellent way for you to get to know yourself better and discover what you want to accomplish in your life.

Yes it will be anonymous :)

Earlier I just thought that since nobody knows me in Qatar it doesn't matter whether I am using my real name or not but now I know better.

Used to write a journal religiously during my teenage years. My journal'ing days came to a dramatic end after I discovered my brother was also "religiously" reading my journal & using it to blackmail me. :(

Thats what litle brothers are for. To irritate the h*** out of their big sisters. :)

I thought thats what people did with blogs...

Just give it some other name like www.wordpress.reformated girl.com now who is going to know who is writing that blog.

...Unlike the book ...you can access it where ever you go....and none of your close relatives will read it...you might even get some great fans :)

Just dont write names of people...

Its a good idea. The older we get, our perspective on life also changes. And its nice to look back, turn the pages and see how we've evolved as a person.

But my advice to you would be to make sure you keep it in under lock & key or write as a third person, as in case of novels. Will sure save you some highly embarassing moments. :)

Ice Maiden, my sister used to read my journals and started to make fun of me. She told everyone we knew what I wrote and so I quit. I am thinking to start over again, now that I am older and that I live alone.

Formatted Soul, where was this workshop?

Yep, it was most embarassing, Snessy.

But sometimes i do think of taking it up again, because its nice to have a "hard retrievable copy" of a record of events...In the olden days we had scrap books, journals, the all important family photo album. But now most of us put all our life's events into...CD's or other electronic versions. Any damage or even change in technology, and these "memories" are gone forever, with them only remaining in our minds.

I never tried it...but ever since I remember my mom writes regularly..and she can track any details/events from her old diaries...

As she is living alone...writing it down makes her feel like talkin to us.

I remember trying this as a child, but felt silly, so gave up on it. I think it should be encouraged though, it's a great way to get your thoughts on paper, but perhaps it is a good idea to do in a third person, don't want to get caught out like IceMaiden did.

On a serious note, journal writing is considered to be very therapeutic. In the hustle & bustle of everyday life, too often we tend to lose sight of ourselves. Writing is a good way to keep in touch with our inner self.
