Unbelievable things we see on Doha's roads. The weekends have their own particular shows!

Unfortunately the only way to stay way from these drivers would be not to leave home or leave Qatar for good!

Every body know in all world that Qatar GOV people broke the rules and no one pay the fine.

But this just show that even if development and money cant buy the social life, cultural behaviors and respect of others.

I meet many nice Qatari people but to be honest all this is older then 40 years...young people is arogant, childish, using his position to treating others, thinking that they can make whatever they wont and justkicking out of country someone who pass his ways and say NO.

This was happen in many develop country before and be sure soon or later right judge will come. Not from god I dont wait god. (this is my [private life)

and I see many primitive behavior from people in uniform or in some positions where they show exactly what people here ex-plane. Small, cheap and low culture behavior at social life, street and driving.

ANd at the end all this crazy life on street finish soon or later with fatal death.

Law and all this crap what giving to people must be respected and all people doesnt matter police or not, uniform or not must pay. Im 100 % sure that no one from this pay this bills. No one.

And only one way to ignore this is to drive normal, looking your self and going as soon is possible away from this country and find more nice cultural place to work and live. Qatar is so sorry for real and true for social life one dead city.

Few bars, few nice meeting place and all others is big shit full of primitive poeple without minimum of tolerance, respect or one nice word...Hello, yes, you can park here, or you can go in front of line in bank if you are really in hurry...

In a previous you post you mentioned the 'concerned' authorities....thats the problem - are there any 'concerned' authorities?

I am sure I am not the only person who stays local sometimes cos I just don't have the mental energy to drive across Doha.

I am afraid if all the info from the moi site keeps being put up we won't be able to investigate who the crazy drivers are. Last night we ran across so many idiots it was totally life threatening just to go out to dinner. One man was driving so fast when he came up on a slower vehicle his vehicle braking made the back of his car air born I have never seen anything like it before. I try to avoid anyone in any uniform here.

Unfortunately I have had the experience that you mentioned. I have been to the police in 3 occasions to report the same transgression and they did exactly what you said, brushed aside and ignored my plea.

Unfortunately I have been here enough time to understand the country and its systems which lead me to doubt about the relevance of Rule of Law in Qatar.

The image the country wished to project is not exactly what you get on the ground.

It’s sad and frustrating to all but it’s the reality.

Considering all the existent cases that we all experience here (another shameful one posted above by “aai” and the lack of action from the authorities to take any significant valid action, I would still say that the chances that the offender would be taken to task if I would go to the police station are close to zero.

Not only that, but the chances that I would be chased and punished by the aggressor would be significantly high.

That is why my dear friend, we expats are asking you Qatari, to go to the police and ask them to investigate their officers records which will give an indication of how they drive when off duty.

So again I will ask you as a Qatari to acknowledge the shameful record of your own authorities and report this well known fact to the traffic police.

As for me, I will make sure that this situation reaches the International Media, as the local "media" is hopeless and Qatari authorities only react to international embarrassments.

As long one is a working person and owns a car and the car is the medium to reach the work or pick n drop the kids, one is forced to be on the road and further more if the driving condition on the roads are not favorable due to some of the reasons discussed above and most of these occur on the fast lane even you touch that patch of the road for a second, I stand by my rule: that is the middle lane is the lane for all of us who HOPE to reach safely every time and all the time...

To share, while I am on my usual middle lane and I have to take the third or fourth exit from the roundabout I don't mind taking one more round to catch the exit if I have car/s at my right or not safely placed to exit ...actually it is fun to go round, reminds me the merry go around LOL

So today I request you/and all the concerned to avoid as much as you can to be on the fast lane on even two lane road if not three lane roads/highways.

To be frank I fear to drive here with my family and myself, you cant imagine how people are driving in Landcruiser, some time you save your life with narrow escapes from high speed accidents. they are enjoying by speeding their attitude is you are not allowded to drive in speed track some times they chace your car by bumber to bumber fly.

OK - in the UK - like binge drinking culture is criticised but its seen as inevitable and people don't take full responsibility for actions whilst drunk....its a big scape goat

bad driving here is criticised but also seen as inevitable - and responsibility not taken

As I see it is just a different manifestation of people being thoughtless and stupid

Corrupt authorities are everywhere - but it doesn't make it right....actually I think here it is more of a case of being apathetic

..but i encounter a lot of them on my drive to work and they don't respect Qatar driving laws.......

yes tess they're the ISF and from what i've observed some of them are polite and can converse in english

As I see it, saying something about the aggressors does not matter here, as if the idea is to find a resolution then the issue has to be handed over to the concerned authorities who can fix him and his likes which incidentally is the Police only.

Further allow me to say, have you been to the police on any earlier occasion and did they just brushed aside/ignored your plea Y/N.

I personally think it would be too early and perhaps not polite to just go and blame the country by saying (if this was a country where Rule of Law applied)

I would still say that the chances are more that the offender will/shall be taken to task if you will go to the police station. Again the report has to be from the victim as the victim is the witness of the situation, time, venue etc.

So again I will stress on reporting/registering the incident to the traffic police and once they get the plate number they will witness the list of traffic crimes/violations done and your case will be stronger.

My idea is not to reply tit for tat or offend you, but encourage you to take an action for your sake and for the sake of all others on the road.

As somwerNdmiddle explained, that is a bad translation from the original Arabic, which states "speeding over authorized limit". Many official Qatari translations from Arabic to English are horrendous and make no sense. Nobody cares because it’s a government site. This particular mistake has been there for more than 3 years without any action… you can see from this simple and small example how government bodies operate here!

I know that most of us have encountered beasts like this one in Qatari roads. The more we expose them the closer we'll get to a high authority genuine corrective action (or at least we hope).

Yep the police: tailgate, use mobiles, weave in and out, violate speed limit - and do NOTHING to stop drivers violating traffic laws.....

the roads are lawless - that is my big wish for Qatar

to make sure the only people on the roads are there on the merit of their good driving.

I was not driving on the fast lane, I was using the fast lane to pass a slower car. I was passing the car at 80Km/h, the maximum allowed in that road.

Instead of focusing on the victims, why not say something about the aggressors?

Do you think I wouldn't have gone to the police if this was a country where Rule of Law applied?

The Mosque by airport doesnt have any parking. the only parking there is the road side. i parked there went in to pray came back saw a police busy on my car sticking sticker. i went to him asked him That you do see me am coming from prayers will you be kind enough to show me parking here. all he said Allah Yawafaq and was sorry and left. i did pay the fine was just 200Qr.

Not on the QL, as the exposure does not help at all...rather might be considered against you..

Don't allow tail gating...just dont drive on the fast lane :-) is the solution and safer.

I got two tickets in EC and got 6 points on my license! Buggers eeftftt! Where did they expect us to park? I could walk from home, it could be closer.

No way I am going back there to drive around again ... after 8 years escaping with minor accidents here and there, my luck must be about to run out.

I walks everywhere now and enjoying it very much, no way I am giving up my new lifestyle for doha driving again ....

What you wrote is not a new thing in Qatar. That just a common story of driving around in Qatar road. I decided to pack up after 8 years. My life and my son are too precious to be gamble out in Qatar road.
