Hi all..

I am new to Qatar Living as i am set to move out there in jan 10 with my family from uk.

I was wondering, as a distance runner if there are any good running routes or availability to run safely outdoors. We will be based about 20 mins outside Doha at the military training base.

thank you for any response

Stu

Lots of different routes, distances, and pace possible.

We also have social events and meet for coffee every week after the run

I'm in Al Khor, and there are quite a few good desert tracks around if you want a bit of an explore.

Unfortunately you won't find anything like fell running, I've yet to see a proper hill (being from the Isle of Wight - and having done the fell running weekend there last year!).

It's been okay outside for the last month or so, but in the summer months it's ridiculous. I done a 11km run in early September when I arrived and felt like I was going to die. I actually had to stop and walk - I've never done that before!

Best to get your footwear before you come, there is some selection here but not what you'd find at home and certainly the sales people have no clue on what might best suit you.

I have started a running club - there are around 8 of us. We meet every Friday at 6am on Corniche next Sheraton Hotel by the circular coffee shop. Distance run is 8 to 12km+. Two of the group are training for the Dubai Marathon next year another two are training for the RAK half marathon. I just ran in the Dubai half marathon this morning. Lots of running competitions in Dubai & UAE, nothing in Doha unfortunately.

They have traffic lights and speed limits on the Corniche. There is hundreds of untouched ground outside Doha, flat terrain, ideal for long distance running.

ASPIRE is a good place to jog or walk.

A military training base should be ideal for training.

outdoors unsafe, too hot and loads of incompetent drivers.

indoors unsafe, if there's a hot girl on the treadmill in front of you.
