American Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th Thursday in November.

Canadians celebrate it on 2nd Monday in October.

We will be HOME this Thanksgiving with friends and family.

Thank God for all of our blessings not just on that particular day but every day.

"In 1621, the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians shared an autumn harvest feast which is acknowledged today as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies. This harvest meal has become a symbol of cooperation and interaction between English colonists and Native Americans. Although this feast is considered by many to the very first Thanksgiving celebration, it was actually in keeping with a long tradition of celebrating the harvest and giving thanks for a successful bounty of crops. Native American groups throughout the Americas, including the Pueblo, Cherokee, Creek and many others organized harvest festivals, ceremonial dances, and other celebrations of thanks for centuries before the arrival of Europeans in North America."

Hummm not sure but I think Thanks Giving may be a derivative of our Harvest Festival back home in the UK. And I don't know for certain so please correct me if I am wrong, it is a massive thank you to God for a good crop and all that. I think it's an excellent celebration, and regardless of faith should have a place in every culture. I am not religious but none the less I thank God for all the fruits of my year, and if the USA has been kind enough to supply a date for doing it, well splendid I am on board.

Thanks Giving always brings to mind that epic film 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093748/

If you haven't seen it, I strongly recommend ;)

even more than Christmas.

Roast turkey, stuffing, cornbread, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie...yummiest food EVER!

If you see any canned pumpkin around, buy it because apparently the supply is LOW this year (bad crop).

But hope everyone enjoys it and gives thanks for their many blessings this year!

L'chaim!

Ofcourse Gica if you don't have a saint to celebrate someday, you can always hang Count DRACULA that day and drink for his afterlife, I mean he isn't going to die anyway but enjoyment should never stop in life :)

I got that Gica in the first time of asking but I don't know I like thanksgiving..

One of the perks of being without religion, you can pick & choose the festivals you want to enjoy...

It's a separate issue though that none of my friends are here to enjoy it with me :(

By anonymous• 7 Nov 2009 08:17

I'm not talking about being happy with your friends, I'm talking about celebrating (as in believing in this)holiday.

Gica if my American friends are happy then I am Happy, If I am happy then my German friends are happy, If my german friends are happy then their Bosnian friends are happy, If their Bosnian friends are happy then their Romanian friends are happy and if their Romanian friends are happy then why are you not happy??????

The source of any person's happiness should be a global festival....

Sandeep, I'm just asking:isn't Thanksgiving a typical (christian) USA tradition? Is it or not? Is it now global?

Or maybe to lees beers last night... :)
