A bow of honour to WTC victims
The new Navy assault ship USS New York, part of it built with World Trade Center (WTC) steel, arrived in its namesake city on Monday with a 21-gun salute near the site of the 2001 terrorist attack.
First responders, families of September 11 victims, and the public gathered at a waterfront viewing area, where they could see the crew standing at attention along the deck of the battleship grey vessel.
The big ship paused. Then the shots were fired, with a cracking sound, in three bursts.
The bow of the $1 billion ship, built in Louisiana, contains about 7.5 tons of steel from the fallen towers.

Your points are valid to an extent.
This is more to do with a nation trying to remember its own tragedy and also keep it in the minds of the nation. nothing wrong with tht.
also, by doing this, it is able to "play" on the emotions of the peoples as and when required.
Nice way to remember such a great tragedy...build a warship with the ruins of the building. :p
Its 8 years already? Aren't we done with the whole 911 dramatic tragedy? Do we need to be reminded of it all the time? Get over it America, 2 buildings fall and you go around banging drums 8 years down the line.
Good Fortune always comes knocking at your door...when you are sh*tting in the toilet!! :)

"ONE NATION UNDER GOD"
"GOD BLESS AMERICA"
US should just mind it's own business and take care of it's own country and it's affairs rather than playing World Police- I do agree with that.
but this 'event' did not just 'happen' by accident did it?somebody got totally irritated by the way a nation was singularly policing the rest of the world and decided to tell them to shut up for some time.so it was not like this event triggered so many others.....this event itself was triggered by so many other factors that had been building up.i still feel that the US should just mind it's own business and take care of it's own country and it's affairs rather than playing World Police.had they done that, nothing of this sort would have happened.

I still think that this event needs to be remembered as this was the event that triggered wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The war in Afghanistan made the Taliban towards Pakistan. There is mutual distrust between Muslim countries and America. Pretty much everything that's gone wrong in International diplomacy has been due to this one event. As I said it did not just affect America.
my deepest condolences to the innocent civilians who died that day.individual sentiments are accounted for,my friend.i was talking about the way the entire world talks about it like the world was hit by a meteor or sorts!i mean,it's been 8 years since that happened....whatever happened was bad.we all know that....but people just have to snap out of it and get going.just take the morning paper today and flip thru the pages.how come people aren't spending their life mourning the loss of life and property in other countries?Floods in the Philippines, communal riots and terrorist attacks in the Subcontinent, and so much more.....
why is it that the US gets hero-worshipped like this?i've always hated this....all of us are equals when it comes to disaster....it is equally bad!not that when it happens to the US,it's oh-so-bad and when it happens elsewhere,it's part-of-their-life x-(

svelte_saggi 7 of my friends died that day and none of them was an American. They all studied with me from kindergarten through college in Delhi, India.
It's anyway not about America or Americans. It was a terrorist's declaration that nobody is safe anywhere in the world.
two towers crash down and the world mourns the loss of life and property for eternity....how come the same sentiments aren't shown towards other debacles happening all around the rest of the world?hmmmm.....
anything and everything that happens to the US or in the US is either a matter of international celebration or international mourning..... :-/
life and the world in general is so unfair.....

A nice way to keep the tragedy in our memories. may they all rest in peace.
