Your opinion: sacked or not?
1 month ago I was told my by team leader that if I was off work ill I would be fired. Now unfortunatly I was very ill with the flu. I was off for 5 days & got a note from the doctor to prove this.
On returning to work I was told they didn't know whether I would be sacked or not. I was then told yesterday by my team leader that they woul 'review' my contract and let me know what was happening by Friday
What do you think??
The doctors sick certificate should suffice otherwise if taken too frequently then that should create lots of negative opinion, like termination.
I think if you had informed your Office.. you are Ill and wont be coming to office... for x dayz...

They do not have set rules, penalities or such. I have been off a few times this year, but never phoned in sick just for the sake of it.
Oh well, just need to wait til Friday!

Leisa, i said check the policy, not your contract. surely, your company must have some policy manual, or schedule of penalties or the like.

Never heard any one getting fired of being sick/ill... but if it is quite frequent then the employers get concerned ...
Have you been taking leave on grounds of being sick quite often in the recent past...

It was just ordinary flu but I was prescribed Tamiflu!
My contract doesnt say anything about being terminated for being off ill.
It does say I am meant to get sick pay but they dont pay me. I have had £200 off me this month :(
I feel like screaming. Especially because I am away on holiday in 2 days!

if there is a policy that getting sick merits termination, then yes, you will get it. but really that is the rule of the daft. we are humans, not robots. even machines break down.
you should've stayed at work and infect your boss with H1N1, was it H1N1?? :)
