Its souq Al Deera people ive been there. Its not souq Waqif. Been shopping at Waqif round about 1pm and the fire was accros the street at the back of the mosque. still fighting the fire. Need water and more tankers.

its a big fire out there..I hope no one's hurt ....

right where the flames are located is one of my favorite perfume stores. I hope the nice guys who work inside are all OK.

The fire is almost under control as I write now. 3 shops and a couple of rooms have been destroyed.

well god possible save them ....

...looks like they have only one hose to fight with and that too the hieght from which the water is being poured on the fire is wrong. Most of the water is vapourising even before it reaches the fire...

and its still hot fresh

and about more than 200 officials are there from all interior depts.

the area is closed to the market now no incoming traffic.

2shops next to Deera souq got the fire not SC or any other. if they didnt stop it now it will get Souq Deera also.

the accommodation behind these shops are debris now.

they are not finding any way from back side to get close. making it harder for them. the flames are way high at 50m 60m

i think the police would have cordoned off the area....expecting more pics maybe later on during the day

I posted earlier that the smoke comes from the Gold Souq (as i was told by a work colleague); now i know it is not true, it is located near Stander Charter Bank near the Deera Souq.

that some1 is happy with BB and came up with the idea to use it as a mean spreading rumours

i just hope the casualties are restricted to the clothes....

it is in souk area. souk al deera and anexed area. fire was really bad. so many fire tender.

A friend of mine just drove by and said it was by the mosque, not in Souq Waqif but closer to the other shopping areas like Gold Souq. I can see it right now from the 11th floor of the Marriott and the smoke looks huge!

I have just been to mega mart and saw all the black smoke myself. It doesn't look like a small fire!
