Gender Evaluation...

Would you say the word woman is derived from the word man, or vice versa.....And the same with male/female. Man may we come first and then 'wo' was added as an appendage, or the woman came first and the man is a part of the woman.

Disclaimer-this is in no way a psychological evaluation of forum mentality and/or a search for anomalous individuals... much

It's giving, reemahf. "Sub" in Latin means "under" or "below".

It just doesn't feel like submitting reemahf. It feels like the most natural thing in the world to do..

"im asian, my boyfriend (an egyptian) and i are having serious problems on our relationship. his parents wants him to marry another girl. its so unfair for us as we really love each other. its pure love. his family likes me but still prefer their son to be married with an egyptian as its their culture. i highly respect that. next year, its his schedule to ask this girl for marriage. he cant disappoint his parents as he is the first born. im thinking just to sacrifice our love for the sake of his family, but its really painful for us. his mother said that, he can do whatever he wants if this egyptian girl will refuse him. well, im just hoping now that she will refuse my boyfriend. we really dont know what to do but wait. if he marries her, i will never find a man like him. perhaps i will just stay alone forever.

the egyptian is religious, and she prefers a religious husband. my boyfriend is not religious. do you think she will accept him?"

"want i know is just i have to submit to my husband.. kallas".

I'm just joking. But honestly, don't you know any women that has a vir-tue? Or are they all... ??

By Jut• 16 Oct 2009 21:26
Jut

ok you have me there, I should have added "with regards to identifying sex", although virile, virtue and plenty of other vir words are linked to the meaning of vir = man.

Regardless, it's a great way to stop a "man was made first cause it says so in my holy book of choice so the word man came first too" argument before it's even started.

By anonymous• 16 Oct 2009 18:29
anonymous

Does it mean a man has come and gone?

By anonymous• 16 Oct 2009 18:29
anonymous

That's a pretty virulent explanation.

And what about vir-go (virgin)??

By Jut• 16 Oct 2009 18:16

Jut

this one's pretty much a no brainer.

The words woman and man originated as follows.

mann = human being (neutral sex)

wer = adult male

wif = adult female

Therefore werman = adult male human being.

eventually the 'wer' designation was dropped leaving just man.

the wif from wifman ended up becomming the word we now call 'Wife' while 'wifman' became wimman which then was rounded off to become woman.

in latin there was a similar evolution

homo = human being (neutral sex)

vir = adult male

Use of vir stopped, homo used to describe males
