I own a Pajero 2008 model and experience a mild electrical shock while getting off, and come into contact with any metal viz. the door, after driving it for a while. Sometimes this happens even while driving too when i come in contact with a fellow passenger!!? I checked with the guys in the Service center in the Industrial area and they say its absolutely normal and its just the static current in our body and there is really nothing they can do about it. Has any one ever experienced this? Its really strange.
Hey, Thank you guys, for all the information you shared. I really appreciate it. Now i'm confident there is really nothing wrong with my car!!! Thanks once again.
If it bothers you, you can buy an anti-static strap (earth belt) that fits to the rear of the car. Bad news is that I don't know where to buy them in Doha. Good news is that you can get them on ebay for about US$10.
Hope this helps.
The floor carpet inside your car is the one creating a static electricity. Try to put rubber pads on your foot rest. Thanks.
Yep that is static electricity which is potentially accumulated at your hand as a result of continuous friction with a steering wheel. don't touch any metallic parts of the car, touch any wall to neutralize it.
I got a shock when I got into a Pajero for the first time (and no! it was not the electric shock type)
But then again, that was a pretty old, tattered, unkept one...didn't dare say anything...the driver and owner was my boss :)
It is normal and you can experience it not only on cars but with direct contact with any metallic objects. I, for one, face it most of the time. I even get mild electric shocks just by touching another person.
It is due to static current coming from your vehicle. Just put anything that would insulate yourself from your car while getting off like rubber pads or any other form of insulators.
It is pretty normal and I guess it has something to do with your footwear. I have noticed few times if I am wearing sleepers than most likely I get this static from my Nissan Petrol.
Like you were told it's called static and is more than normal. Is not just pajero, is also camry, jazz, landcruiser (many cars), also it could happen in the office; even a few days back there was a post for similar situation with the trolleys in the supermarket.
So nothign to worry about...it's normal.
Regards!!
