I have 4 kids i want to work but can't leave the kids at home because i don't have helper. We are a Filipino Family, i want to get a Filipina helper as i am more comfortable having same nationality. Is this possible? I heard it is not allowed to hire somebody with the same nationality as the employer. How true is this?

The POWA has set the minimum wage as $400 per month. How some people get away with paying less than that I don't know. They are being corrupt and selfish. Would any of YOU work 6 days a week for 700 Riyals a month? I would really like to see that!

as far as I know the regular basic wages for domestic helper in GCC as per agreement by the OWWA it is revised to QR 1,200 with free of housing and all daily needs plus air ticket back to country of origin every 2 years. that's why most Arabs hire Ethiopian or Indonesian people because it is less than Filipino.

Legally, a Filipina maid cannot work here unless she is paid the minimum wage set by POWA Philippines Overseas Worker's Association, and that minimum is $400 per month plus food, accommodation, etc.

If any agency is offering maids for less than this, then they are operating illegally and you can run into all sorts of problems with visa renewal, bogus medical checks, etc.

Basically, Philippines Immigration will not allow them to leave the Philippines unless they have a contract stating that they are to receive at least this minimum amount.

We paid originally for our live in maid with one day off per week 1,300 and we then increased it in year 2 to 1,500 and now in year 3 it is 1,800.

I think to work all week and get paid 700 is wrong (even with food, accomo, etc). If they do a good job and are honest and hard working why not pay more (if you can afford it). After all, they look after your children do you really want them to be unhappy?

We did not go through an agency and each time (we've had 2 maids) transfered the visa. It was quick and this way we could see who we were hiring rather than pick from a book.

I'm just wondering why you felt like you had to post anything at all regarding this subject? Keep your negative comments to yourself. We don't need them.

By Phil law its 400 US$ per month but so very few got that salary, they are made to sign contract stating that their salary is 400 but in reality its only 200, the maids are aware of this....but if they are good its up to you...

It you take maid from agency you will be paying 7k-8K QR for two years contract, if mutually agreed she may continue working with u...

Also if you know somebody who can recommend you, you may take the maid as direct hire, lesser expenses...

Actually i am on the process of taking a filipina to work as maid for one of my manager, anytime this week i will go to embassy to inquire....

Angelina: is that as per contract through an agency? or is that what U choose to pay. I have paid more than 2000QR but they were not under my sponsership. My wife is thinking of sponsering one and I am trying to figure if its woth paying 9000QR to agnecy, if by contract I am payign 1500 i might as well hire someone who is already here and willing to come under our sponsership.

No I think your info is incorrect, as I know persoanlly that it was 850 by contract few months ago, its 700 for indonesians, i Just am not sure about that 1200QR pay, if its true that thats the basic for them or not.

By Vitaline• 22 Sep 2009 03:26

by contract still 700QR.. but its up to you..

Phillipino housemaid 700QR, Indonesia and Ephopia- 650QR..this what it was few months back.. No that conflict with the labour dept of Phill was solved easy..so no changes..

By mrT• 21 Sep 2009 23:41
mrT

hmmm 700?? last I had heared it was 850QR last yr but I know most of my friends atleast give them 1000-1200. But I had heared that as per filipino labor laws u are required to give them minimum salary of 1200..is it true?

By Vitaline• 21 Sep 2009 23:31
Vitaline

There is minimum salary by contract- 700 QR..

But you must give her a nice room to live in and bathroom, kitchen she can use, food and any medical help ( if she needs), hala card and mobile ( if she doesn't have) and money monthly (or how you want) for mobile credit, she must keep in touch with her family. And of course to provide with such things like soap, shampoo etc

But 700 QR is really nothing for that hard job what they are doing.. so, increase it..
