After a long dispute, the Klingons have finally agreed for peace talks with the Federation, and Starfleet command sends the crew of USS Enterprise-A to welcome envoy to the Klingon chancellor. A sudden attack on the Klingon chancellor's ship put Captain Kirk as the prime suspect of the scheme as because he may be the only person who 'does not like the Klingons' from an incident of his family history. Pleading that he didn't do anything on the said crimes, he willingly accepts the punishment in fornt of the Klingon jury execution, while the rest of the crew of the Enterprise seemingly investigates who really is the prime suspect of all the conflicts that will shatter the upcoming peace treaty.
The last of the "voyages" with the original cast and crew of the Star Trek: The Original Series, the tone of the movie sways into less adventurous (but there still is) but more on a political tone to give the audiences another insight that the Enterprise is not always about "exploring strange new worlds" but making a peace pact and unity among all living beings in the universe. The thing that makes it somewhat better than the rest of the previous Star Trek movies (1-5) was the investigative 'intrigue' that realizes that the root of the conflict was not just in one 'race' itself but through a united 'insiders of different races' trying to sabotage as much as everything the Federation has made and come so far since its history of foundation, which makes things more complicated to the Enterprise crew. This movies serves as a dedication to Gene Roddenberry, the creator and producer of the Star Trek genre, who died shortly before the movie was initially shown in American theatres.
P.S. That other Starship, USS Excelsior (which also appears in this movie), sucks in its design. Felt really bad why they gave Zulu full commands for this ship.
