Dark City (1998)
Stars: Rufus Sewell, Jennifer Connelly, Keifer Sutherland, William Hurt, etc.
Directed by Alex Proyas
In a bleak future, a man wakes up with no memory of who he was and while he looks for his own personality, he finds out he's involved in a series of murders of a typical crime but doesn't believe it as he doesn't remember anything. Everyone is looking for him, the wife, the detective, a doctor, and strangers in black who appear to have powers on their own. Little by little he noticed that he never sleeps at 12 midnight and everyone around him is, including the city landscape, the personalities of people, their history,...and only he and the same people who looks for him must understand the truth of what's happening around it...unless they can remember before their memories change.
Written and directed by the same guy who made The Crow (starring Brandon Lee) , a weird science fiction with a literal sense that makes us wonder what makes humanity tick through the eyes and 'experiments' of the so-called Strangers as one person who has evolved with powers like one of them (and is still fully human unlike the Strangers) changes the way the city 'works' and reestablishes a somewhat new hope in this so-called city that doesn't seem to have a daylight and is bounded on an everyday nighttime routine not controlled by human individuality.
