My wife and I moved here recently from Canada. My wife has joined groups such as the AWA (Americans Woman Association) to socialize. There are many such groups so have no worries. Above all, do contact us and we'll be glad to show you around (it can get lonely here if u dont socialize with the like). Just send me a private msg and i'll send you my wifes contact details. Just in case you might think its important, were a young couple in our mid twenties
"It will be more safe and respectful then your own country , The worst part will be you will feel this but never agree to this in your whole life" great comment by earlier writer PLAZA 3804 one addition though "you will make lot of easy money with minimum effort" enjoy yourself
Qatar hero's comments are true in the main, but as a man i could not confirm the part regarding attention from Arab males - i have had none and do not want any lol. Qatar can amaze you one day and infuriate you the next it is conservative and progressive in the same breath, you have freedom and restriction at the same time.
As a western female you will be fine and able to make a comfortable and enjoyable life here in Doha. My wife is Irish and both her and the kids love it after being quite retiscent in the first place. It is safe here, you can drive (unlike Saudi)you do not have to wear an Abaya (like Saudi) but should dress conservatively although in the clubs i have seen much the same as the UK.
If you decide to give it a go just keep an open mind and be prepared to accept that this is Qatar.
You'll get lots of male attention, judging from your profile (young, blue eyed, etc.) -- which can be enjoyable, but it can also get annoying at times as there's loads of smarmy types here. Just a word of warning: Arab men can be charismatic and disarming, but they're also a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing if you will -- they'll flatter you like you've never been flattered before, but you will rarely amount to anything more in their eyes than a nice piece of a** (IMHO). These guys are players and many of them are prone to some not-so-nice behaviors with women, so proceed with caution.
There is a bit of a night life here, but Doha is not NYC or anything near that so the club scene leaves a great deal to be desired.
That said, you can live quite comfortably here and create a nice life for yourself with a little effort.
The expat community here is strong and wide-ranging so you will meet all sorts of people here -- and that's one of Doha's strongest points, I think -- the variety of friends that you will make.
There's no pork, but you can get alcohol, and truly the place is like a little bastion of every franchise known to man. There's Marks&Spencers, Starbucks, Mango, Chilis, Nandos, etc...it's an easy life here.
Qatar's winter months are brimming with unmissable experiences, from the AFC Asian Cup 2023 to the World Aquatics Championships Doha 2024 and a variety of outdoor adventures and cultural delights.
