Is 1,500 USD enough to live in Doha Qatar?

Hello everyone is 1,500 USD Basic Salary is enough to live in Doha Qatar? Accomodation will be shouldered by the employer and the transportation wont be necessary because the place to live in is very near from the office so i guess its only a few minutes of walking to the workplace i hope im correct. Anyway i dont have any idea yet for the cost of living in Doha Qatar since this is my first time to go to Qatar. Can i still have savings with an offer of 1,500 USD Basic Salary?

Your opinions are very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

It would be a new experience for me...Though.... Im still bachelor/single im just curious is it strict in Doha Qatar just by looking to beautiful ladies there? By any race at all? Welcome to Qatar would be my first reply. Concerning the $1500, I think you can manage with it especially that transport and accommodation isn't included. A few years back I was living on a budget and I cooked at home occasionally and ordered out from good Indian places, and it never exceeded Qr500 a month. I think you should accept the job and its offer, a lot of people out there aren't privileged like you are. Good luck!

qatarisun trust me we make 3 meals a day- breakfast, lunch n dinner for two (except sometimes on weekends), my weekly expenditure is never more than 350/week for-2! what do u buy in 500 riyals for one person who doesn't eat too much?

i2q, are you sure he will spend 700 on grocery??

well, unless he wants to be on the strickt diet..

we spend 500 a week for two, take into consideration, my hub basically never dines at home ,except of Fridays, when he cooks... and i don't eat too much, and also eat outside quite often...

I know if you coook home and need to eat properly, you will spend at very least QR1,500 a month...

The biggest cost you can't predict is medical. You can get a Hamad card ( ask the employer to pay the QR100 ). But you'll still need to pay per visit.

Some people - say on ships & oil-rigs, just work & save & if that's your plan ( save money to send home ) then you can also look for your end-of service bonus after 12 months.

That 100% saving. All helps I think.

your salary will come to around 5500 riyals, your minimum expenditure shud be:

-groceries+household expenses : 700 riyals (considering u cook at home)

-toiletries/saloon misc expences: 200 riyals

-landline phone:33 riyals -unlimited usage

-internet: 200 riyals -unlimited usage

-mobile pre-paid: 0.55 riyals/min in Qatar

-Calling to home country: check VOIP call rates online.

-electricity & water: 200 riyals shud be your max usage charges/month.

-television: 100/month(aprox)

-cab charges: i pay around 15 to 50 riyals for a return trip to nearest n farthest point respectively from my home.

eating out: 10 riyals to 100 riyals per meal.

one time charges

2000 riyals Deposit for Water n Electricity+

1 month advance rent for landline and internet

am not entering into housing n car expense as you have mentioned u don't require.

guess tht shud be your basic cost, your cost on luxuries, clothes, other stuff depends upon your spending over n above this. so answer to your question 1- can you live in this salary- yes u can. n -can you save money- yes you can, bt is it good enough- you decide, so think carefully before u commit. all the best!

JAVI, he is not going to hit a red light.. he is going to WALK to his office...:):)

Patern, if you want to live a normal life here, you actually will do need a car. But on the other hand, if you are ok with staying home all the time, you will be able to save most likely about 50-60% of your basic salary. Since all your expense will go only towards the FOOD, so about US$500-600 a month would be enough. but again, how long you are willing to live as a hermit? you will need to go out, to buy some good, to entertain... here depends on your priorities..

some ;) might leave at the bar about US$700 a NIGHT, some have never been to the bar... some only dine in the 5* hotels, where the meal starts from $50-60 per person. Some cook exclusively home, and don't spend a penny on outings.. some are travelling out of qatar every once in a while and spend money abroad.. some only go home for vacation once a year on the Company's expense...it all depends...

but basic (far from being luxury) things are:

grocery – $500-600

utilities - $120-160

average car (if) - $ 500-600 (could be less if car is cheaper)

other $200-250

Total: $1,350 – 1,500

It actually depends on your lifestyle. If you want to save at least 20% of your salary should be kept right away..Goodluck!

Just FYI, beating the red light is already around $1500.

It may not seem applicable, but if you get locked on this salary and eventualy get a vehicle sometime later, you may need to know these things as well.

You may survive in this if u have an accomodation but can hardly save anything. Maybe half of this.
