And God Spoke (The Making of...) (1993)
Directed by Arthur Borman
A director and a producer made a documentary of their own about their prospective and upcoming big budget film about the Bible. Here we see how hapless and obnoxious the crew and the moviemaking turned out to be.
In the spirit of This is Sipnal Tap (if you're familiar with the movie), this mockumentary gives way to a whole new meaning of filmmaking. Filled with (I really need to reiterate the word again) obnoxious cast and crew from getting a 'costly' shooting location in Jordan endorsed by an Arab tour guide, a proud cameraman who can't make his focus lenses right, a production assistant that doesn't even know how he's gonna bring the film reel in Melrose Place (as he doesn't even know how he got there), a catering manager who makes food 'feel' like the ancient times,...and more of such buggers.
And the funniest line I've ever seen in this movie...the director's prayer on his first shooting day. And it reads like this:
Our Father, thou art in heaven
Hallowed be our film
And with good shooting become
This film will be done
For Earth, and for You in Heaven
Give to us daily
Your weather career
And deliver us from downpours
Except of course days on which we shoot
Lead us not into bankruptcy
And deliver us on time
For film is our Kingdom
Our power and our glory
Forever and ever, Amen
God the movie was hilarious!...and a rare find for me too.
