Chelsea soccer team racks up $240,000 bar bil
A TOP British soccer team racked up a staggering bar bill of $240,000 in a few hours as they rubbed shoulders with Prince Harry at an exclusive London nightclub.
With the first big game of the season just days away, Chelsea stars announced their return from holiday with a typical display of excess.
Led by captain John Terry, they drank cocktails at $800 each while champagne flowed until the early hours, The Daily Mail reports.
One $3000 magnum was sprayed around the VIP area, according to an onlooker.
Terry's bill alone was said to be $120,000 including a $20,000 advance tip to staff with a request for them to give the players "the best service you can" at the party to celebrate teammate Salomon Kalou's 24th birthday.
Such amounts, of course, are small beer to Terry, who earns $240,000 a week.
Terry ordered 30 bottles of Dom Perignon champagne at $1300 each as soon as he arrived at the Whisky Mist club, before demanding four magnums costing a total of $12,000.
A surprise guest was Prince Harry, who was drinking with his friend Guy Pelly.
He had earlier watched as tables in the VIP area were loaded with 20 bottles of Grey Goose vodka, 10 bottles of Jack Daniels and $20,000 worth of food, including smoked salmon fillets.
When the Chelsea players arrived, Harry ordered a $1300 bottle of Cristal champagne and sent it over to them.
He then joined in a chorus of Happy Birthday for Kalou with the Chelsea team, a huge crowd of female admirers and a man playing bagpipes.
Despite the huge amount spent on drink, Terry did not touch a drop himself and drove home in his Bentley at 3am when the party finally finished.
No doubt he was bearing in mind Chelsea's date with Manchester United tomorrow.
