Ice Cream at Kubos…!
(An attempt to make an Inspiring Story)

I don’t exactly know what drives me to make this story (blog entry actually)…. this is not as sensational as the “Tres-Hudas plus Magdalena” grandeur July celebration (Happy Birthday po sa inyo!) as what we usually read here… but I think it is worth sharing….. here it goes;

I used the title as to describe the simplicity of life, and how simple pleasure makes life simply “wonderful”… Me and my co-workers (we were about 7) had a visit to the Holy Rosary church last Sunday in Industrial Area (Thank God we made it again after a couple of months)…there we had fun of teasing each other for some really not intend to go for mass but to see ehemmm… girls. We were early so we decided to check the Canteen try to figure out what to have for snacks. Amazingly, the pizza cost around 7QR per piece and that only two of us can afford it (yes, that’s how underprivileged we are!?)…so we decided to went out (without even having anything, shame with Shiela the vendor there) and went directly to the main church since the mass will almost start that time.

During the mass, the “barako boys” (as my co-workers used to call themselves) were eagerly and actively singing, from the top of their lungs, the gospel songs as if they were part of the Choir. I think they just trying to make it up since the mass was on English language (we did not make it with Tagalog mass early in the morning) and really they’re kinda like bored with it, especially if the readers can not speak clearly or loud enough but fortunately, the readers were good…aside from having a new parish priest (failed to get the name)! Fr. Tom has already left for Dubai….

Anyways, the homily was feeding of the multitude and about Investment… investing to God… and the sermon was about the reasons of recession….greediness. The reverent father called for the generosity of everybody to help and support all people especially the needy ones… he recalled one noble monk satisfying his apostolic obligation by helping underprivileged children and when God appeared to that monk thanking him for fulfilling such obligation. It is not necessarily sharing of what‘s with great value, some can share their gifts of talent in the arts like writing, singing,…. Same with what the guys with me had done! (kung matatawag na kanta yun?!).

After the mass, we ended up in a baqala (somewhere in Industrial Area) buying and sharing kubos and 7 cups of ice cream for each one to alleviate our hunger ( In case you will ask, I paid for it cost around 8 QR??!!). We hilariously laughed as we recalled all funny moments there (since we have to be divinely serious during mass) and most importantly tried reflect to the gospels we have just heard as we ate. For me, the food we are eating represents simplicity. Shall I ask for more or compare it with the foods we saw in the Church’s canteen? Certainly not! I will just be thankful and grateful...We should not always crave for more….it must be for what I have now is what I deserve and not what I desire.

It is not everyday that I am with these group and neither have I gone to church regularly, but there was something special on that day that made it memorable for me… the life’s simple pleasure of eating a KUBOS and ICE CREAM and the joy of sharing it with others. Malapit na ako bumalik sa Pinas, surely I will miss this one!

…..you, what are your life’s simple pleasures?
