Idaho town prays for return of captured US soldier

HAILEY, Idaho – Friends and family of an Idaho soldier who was captured in Afghanistan prayed for his safe return Sunday, shaken by the image of the frightened young private in a Taliban video posted online.

Pfc. Bowe R. Bergdahl, 23, was serving with an Alaska-based infantry regiment earlier this month when he vanished, just five months after arriving in Afghanistan. He was serving at a base near the border with Pakistan in an area known to be a Taliban stronghold.
..."We hope and pray for our son's safe return to his comrades and then to our family, and we appreciate all the support and expressions of sympathy shown to us by our family members, our friends and others across the nation," Bob Bergdahl, the soldier's father, said in a statement issued through the Department of Defense.

And this only adds up to the crisis and more terrorism erupts. Innocent ppl of both parties are the victims.

That was the point I was making. the democracy is a smokescreen. the aim is to have a presence in the country and shore up a puppet government.

just five months after his arrival in afghanistan....well he shoul'nt get his punishment so early...let him kill a few more and then he can be punished....or "can be sent safe to his comrades" so that next time he can kill even more.....

the soldier's father is acting as a father...not as a human

Democracy isn't the issue. When the Palestinians democratically elected Hamas, the Western world left the Palestinians to starve. They boycotted the Hamas government and assisted in the siege on Gaza Strip so to make them ditch the elected Hamas.

We are propping up a puppet government. Afghanistan is a feudal / tribal land. It would be impossible to "export democracy"

there's no oil to even compare it to the iraqi turmoil, no communist threat of spreading, no money, just encircling iran.

the US must have said mission accomplished, when they overthrew the taliban, put a puppet regime (that would have fallen few months later like in vietnam) and withdrew, sparing all the costs and lives.

the only claim is fighting terrorists, to prevent them from exporting violence into the states. in the process, the US is exporting democracy instead!

Old men make the decision to go to war. Young men die because of it. By joining any army or military group you are facing the chance of death and exposing your family to potential heartache.

Simple solution: send all the soldiers home. This whole exercise is pointless.

Yes, and how many deaths will it take till he knows

That too many people have died?

The answer, my friend, is blowin in the wind,

The answer is blowin in the wind.

-------------

Although it has been described as a protest song, it poses a series of rhetorical questions about peace, war, and freedom.

The refrain "The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind" has been described as "impenetrably ambiguous: either the answer is so obvious it is right in your face, or the answer is as intangible as the wind".

Forty years after and the song still holds true in today's event. How sad:(

Seriously brit sometimes i wonder the same thing...if all the soldiers just came to their senses and gave up fighting for these few Eff'ing political leaders the world would be a better place. Fighting for your country? wtf is that all about? each one take care of your own damn country.

I'm 100% sure if these political leaders had to put their own ass in the line of fire instead of having others do it for them there would be MORE peace rather than peace "talks"

"...just five months after arriving in Afghanistan." ??

I would agree that war is stupid... Humans on both sides lose their lives for the whims of a few political leaders..

I hope he is reunited with his family and I hope that our soldiers are brought home at the earliest..

I'm not pro-western, he could be from anywhere, but I know he's a son, a brother to someone out there, a family who's worried sick and hope to see him alive!
