Looks like me and my husband might be relocating to Saudi for his work and I would welcome any comments if you have been there. I know it is nothing like Doha, and would like to prepare myself.

DEAR MADDIMAY,

CONGRATS ON HAVING THE PRIVILEGE TO BE IN A COUNTRY WHICH MANY DO NOT GET A CHANCE TO EXPERIENCE.I REACHED K.S.A AS A YOUNG BRIDE AND STAYED THERE FOR 2 YEARS, AFTER WHICH WE SHIFTED TO UAE (10 YEARS) AND NOW TO QATAR.

IT IS NOT A SCARY PLACE, AS THOUGHT OF. MOST WESTERNERS STAY IN COMPOUNDS, WHERE THE RULES OF THE LAND CAN BE SLIGHTLY "AMENDED".WORSHIPS OF OTHER RELIGIONS, CARRYING RELIGIOUS STUFF, ETC IS NOT ALLOWED, MOSTLY.BUT THE RELIGIOUS FERVOUR IS MORE THERE!

THE PEOPLE IN GENERAL, ARE HARASSED BY THEIR OWN SYSTEM.MOST DON'T SEEM TO LOVE IT.WOMEN CANNOT DRIVE AND ONLY CERTAIN PROFESSIONS LIKE TEACHING,HOSPITAL JOBS, ETC ARE AVAILABLE. I HAVE HEARD THAT WOMEN WORK INSIDE COMPOUNDS IN OTHER FIELDS,TOO.

SOCIAL LIFE AND FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS IN THOSE DAYS USED TO BE BETTER, BUT I HEARD IT IS BECOMING LIKE ANYWHERE ELSE, THANKS TO MALLS.SAVING WILL DEPEND ON YOUR WAY OF LIVING.RIYADH IS STRICTER THAN MOST OF THE OTHER PLACES.BUT I HAVE GOOD MEMORIES OF THE PLACE, EVEN AFTER TRAVELLING TO AROUND 10 - 15 OTHER COUNTRIES. IT IS JUST DIFFERENT, BUT TAKE IT EASY.

UDDI

Hi the guy JACKport is completely wrong because he is resist. let me tell you about saudi arabia i have some relatives and friends living in JADA and Riyaz and they are working there for ages they had no trable at all how could you say this about someone if you never been there

there are good people and bad people everywhere. The only thing is nice to be nice. They respect other people.

so the think he is complety wrong. I spend five years in Scotland Uk and you know the street crimes and other things even everybody knows very well that they are not safe. What you think London is safe.

Dont take my wrong about Uk or other countries. Even in Qatar we think we are safe but i personly take care a lot of myself and my family i hope you are clear now..

I dont know either you are muslim or not but a lot of non muslims are living in Saudi arabia i know they are little bit change from Qatar but think about you are going there for your own benefits only not going to correct their system they are islamic and its their country. Even if the Qatari people turn to the other way i mean that no human rights and bla bla bla no one can ask them

You would find most (expat) people started working in Saudi at some time in their life, but we all escaped (and I don’t use that word lightly)and moved to the UAE, Oman, Bahrain or Qatar.

Saudi is a prison they treat westerners like shit, it is the religion capital of the Middle East. Everything revolves around religion. It is a very hard county to live in,

Some years back it was hit bad by terrorism. If you where a westerner, you were a target to be kidnapped and killed, ask any QL member that has been there, they where bad old days for us, i was sick of having a gun pointed at me all the time. from both sides.

I won’t ever go thu Saudi on a stopover flight, As I said we all escaped from Saudi… check first before you go, the money is not that good there also. Rules . rules. rules
