IT indeed is advancing so fast, that often we have the technology but have no use for it- yet. Take the MS Word software for example. It has like a thousand features but for the average user, they only use a dozen features. This is because Bill Gates knew that people's creativity is infinite... that's why he made his software with almost infinite features, to be ready for the people.

If you can make IT closer to the people, closer to their exact needs, you're making yourself closer to the gold mine. See how Facebook penetrated the needs of the people? See how it became a $15 Billion company? Its because technology delivered the need of the people not only to communicate, but to connect people in so many ways than just voice.

So for techies out there, do not just be interested with technology for its functions & features. Be more interested on how & why people need it... most especially, how they will pay you for simply needing it. Take Qatar Living for example. It gives joy to everyone but at the endof the day, someone gets paid.

francism, online freelance in another way was what i advised him. as in freelance writer. he doesnt have a site i told him to register and pass his credentials at odesk. if someone is looking for a writer or a data encoder with his expertise, they will hire him for the job.

it kinda works like this,

i will be passing my CV as a photoshop editor to odesk and they will include me in their list of potential freelance designers. now if a client from another country will be needing someone who is knowledgable in photoshop for a certain job, they will look into the pool of CVs in odesk and if you are chosen, you will be offered a contract for that certain job. these are small jobs and as you increase your reputation (quality and time), you will have more and more clients. some people i know are writing articles for other people's blog and are getting paid for it. some are even writing research papers for others. :)

as i mentioned before kiko, we need your help to make ur "barangay" more presentable. :D hehehe... it needs a lot of adjustments. maybe one of these days i'l tell you how that "barangay" of ours really started. :) it's a very funny and ironic story really. :) much like ron's accidental first million. :D

add joel christopher (ust alumni! wuhu!) and ian del carmen on the list of pinoys making it big in the IT business. although ian is based in the philippines, his market is all over the world. :)

guys, a friend of mine who recently lost his job (abroad) was asking me what he can do while looking for a new job (he's a bread winner). he doesnt want to go to business yet (no capital, little experience, the usual fears) so i told him to try being an online freelance writer or a network marketer. any other suggestions for him?

"Diosdado Banatao", ring a bell? I guess not. Well unlike the ultra-famous Charice Pempeco or Manny Pacquiao, Diosdado is an unknown. But who is he? In a nutshell... a son of a farmer from Ilocos, graduated Cum Laude from Mapua & very shortly went to the US to work for Boeing. In the following years, he started his IT company developing & manufacturing computer chips. Now he's a self-made billionaire collects planes & sports cars & all. Then there other unknowns like Elizabeth Rivera & Rodolfo Dorilag who stepped into the IT world with their home-grown Filipino talent & turned it into a global success.

Learn more about Banatao, Rivera, Dorilag & a lot more who are truly Global Pinoys! To me, these people are the real Filipino achievers!

i opened a happy savers account at the early age of 7..(loved the rainbow design..) aside from the money that i kept in the bank,i also maintained coinbanks. Sorting the "diyes" from "cinco" made me busy when I was a kid. I was really proud to own another piggy bank with the octagon DOS in it. =) sold heart stickers when I was in 2nd grade, candies in 3rd grade, cool pads in 4th grade.. i think that's how i first learned what business is..

i had mine (or i thought i had) when i was around 6-7yo. every christmas, all my papasko goes to my mom for her to put in my bank account. :) im still looking for the account till now...

my first savings was when i made a hole in one of the bamboo post of our bahay kubo.. around 7-9yo ako nun. :D

cashflow is a little more like monopoly only bit more complex. :) the game will show you how you really handle money in real life. are you a spender? a saver? a risk taker? it will show you your attitude towards money and if your open minded, it will teach you how to spot at opportunities that are usually in front of us!

Question. What age were you when you first started having savings?

My first was at the age of 7. I had a "Happy Savers" account with Banco Filipino & my initial deposit was P.50. It really made you feel that you have an absolute control of your life, for real! After that, I got hooked up with "Monopoly".

Cash flow game or Cashflow 101 is an educational tool in board game format designed by Robert Kiyosaki (author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad), which aims to teach the players concepts of investing by having their money work for them in a risk free setting (play money) while simultaneously increasing their financial literacy and stressing the imperative nature of accountability.

There are two stages to the game. In the first, "the rat race", the player aims to raise his or her character's passive income level to where it exceeds the character's expenses. The winner is determined in the second stage, "the fast track". To win, a player must get his or her character to buy their "dream" or accumulate an additional $50,000 in monthly cash flow.

In place of “score cards”, there are financial statements. The game requires the players to fill out their own financial statements so that they can see more clearly what is happening with their money. It generally shows how assets generate income and demonstrates that liabilities and 'doodads' are expenses.

i am sure you received this txt message before..it speaks about being thankful for all the graces we receive..blessings that we take for granted..blessings that we overlook.i can't remeber the exact words but it goes like this:

be thankful when the alarm rings at 5am in the morning. It means that you are still alive.

be thankful that you get to commute to office everyday. It means you still have a job.

Be thankful that you are criticized and hurt sometimes. that means there is a chance to improve,be promoted and more.

Be thankful for the kids who destroy every house appliance that you fix..that means you have a family.

be thankful for the endless phone calls you receive. that means you have many friends!

Be thankful for the small house..at least you have a home.

I salute you Sir Ron for having such kind of attitude.

It is true that Filipinos are competitive and productive.

It is true that Filipinos are hardworking and efficient.

The only hindrance we ever face is the lack of resources to put up our own. From what I have heard from you, it's clear that there's a bright future ahead for many competitive Pinoy abroad.

I sooo love the fact that it's going to be an all-Filipino staff. The "FILIPINO MUNA SYSTEM" is indeed a great principle to follow.

I hope more OFW's will have the same realization as yours... That we learn the system and when we have finally discovered the secrets of the trade, we'll have the courage and strength to build our own.

I am dreaming of being a Global Pinoy too. =)

May God bless your hopeful dreams and beautiful plans!

Answering your semi-concrete plans? I do, that's the reason why Im here abroad.. to experience more on my line, I do love books..documentary films and event's organizing.. and by God's Grace, im working now on that field, Im investing on learning and exposing more on the field i loved to do.. I may say, im starting to invest and saving what i have learned..., Im working the plan with my brother and when the time i'll be going back home, then i build and implement it... little by little i know, I can do it... Believing myself and faith with God is what i have from the start. :)

To answer your question, "ron, would you still be an employee when you go back next year or a full time business owner?". The answer is a solid N-0!

For more than a decade, my work (as an employee) involves improving operations by developing IT business solutions. I realized that most companies may be experts in their respective industries, but lacks the skill in automating their business process and information systems. That's why we often complain "ano ba itong kumpanya na ito walang systema!". Enter ron_ona. After several years, a few companies, & hundreds of IT projects, I finally found my niche. That is, to turn IT technology into practical money making business solutions... just like what Bill Gates have so successfully achieved.

I know I have the skill but I no longer want to sell my warm body while companies squeeze every drop of my skill as a salaried individual. Instead, I will setup a company OVERSEAS that sells FILIPINO BRAND IT consulting services. Yes, a US-based but 100% Filipino owned & staffed IT consulting company. Why US? Because there is so much market for such services... Why Filipino staff? Only the best of course!

My younger Sister have already started her own consulting business in the US but on a different field. Its only a matter of time before "kuya" comes into the picture...

My true goal is to be a truly Proud & Global Pinoy! Proud for the right reasons, that is... Global, because the whole world indeed has so much to offer.

that's a good one chief ron! or chef ron!

I still remember the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, wolfman,

maybe that was in chapter 2 about The Rich Person do not work for money, the idea struck me about the poor and the middle class, work for money, fear and greed cause ignorance and poverty, and the importance of using an individual emotions against thinking with emotions.. but the best thing is to finish the 10th chapter, I hope by these simple ideas, it may help a bit on how to answer your question wolfman..

anyway back to the clear vision...

ms. kathrina, have you thought of a semi-concrete plan on how to achieve your short term goal (invest and save)?

what line would you be interested in starting up?

ron, would you still be an employee when you go back next year or a full time business owner?

nice suggestion ron. i dont know if i mentioned it but i try to start the day with 20 thanks for the upcoming blessings ahead of the day. keep applying the secret and really stay positive.

just want to share this habit forming activity... i doubt we can do this here coz there's no unlimited texts options here but back home me and a couple of the guys would text atlist 5 successes we encounter as the day goes by to each other. from the simple. "i got up before the alarm sounds!" to "i picked up an old ten centavo coin!", we will try to think of a way to reinforce each other by saying something like, "i told you! you can beat your previous comfort zone!" or "who ever told you that you repel money? you're a magnet bro!"... ofcourse to some it was corny or stupid.. but it was empowering and it felt good.. it stopped when we know that it has already sticked to us as a habit... now we try to apply it even to others. every success we get or see in others, we try to re-inforce it ASAP.

For our next meet, let's do an inventory of the things we have done for the past week that made us closer to our goals. Examples...

"...today I prevented myself from being tempted to buy a new cellphone since the one I'm using is quite fine. The should-be unecessary expenses instead went straight to my monthly savings."

"...today my proposal for a cost-saving method was approved by the Boss. These skills I developed will be useful the time when I am already managing my own company."

Hindi lang natin napapansin, but in the little things we do, it can make us closer or farther away from our goals. IT'S ALWAYS YOUR CHOICE.

"The truth hurts. But the truth cares"

By ron_ona• 28 Jun 2009 12:40

...before you start your day, ask yourself "what am I going to do today that directly contributes to the realization of my goals?". Then in the evening, ask yourself if you have done so.

Many of us stake at establishing goals, benchmarks, & what have you... But the most important is that in every day of our lives, we should do something that is part of realizing our goals.

as i mentioned in our previous get together, my benchmark before going back home and trying my hands on full time business is when i reach a passive income of php100k... but how does an expat generate passive income if he is to work in another country?..

sure a lot of expats here have their "own business" in qatar... but what happens when they go back home for good? they have to let go of their businesses here and income goes back to zero.. :)
