QR112mn stimulant pills seized

Qatari authorities fighting the menace of drug trafficking had their biggest success to date when they foiled an attempt to smuggle into the country more than 4mn Captagon pills worth over QR112mn, in a recent operation.
Captagon pills contain a mixture of the stimulants fenethylline and caffeine. Captagon was originally prescribed for treating severe conditions such as depression and narcolepsy.
The successful operation was the result of joint efforts exerted by different security agencies at the Interior Ministry, including the Drugs Prevention Department, State Security Agency, Preventive Security Department and Rescue Patrols (Al Fazaa) and the General Directorate of Civil Defence.
“We have been able to deal a heavy blow to an international network of traffickers and promoters of contraband goods with the seizure of such a large quantity of the illegal substance and the arrest of the smugglers,” a spokesman for the InteriorMinistry said.
