I have an answer for you that might be worth your while. I am a construction man myself having more than 2o years of work experience in the middle east. ONLY ONE WAY TO BOOST PRODUCTIVITY IN THE FIELD IS ENDURING THE WEATHER WITH YOUR WORKERS. I NEVER STAYED MORE THAN 15 MINUTES IN MY AIRCONDITIONED WORK SITE CABIN, AND I MAKE SURE THAT MY WORKERS ARE WELL FURNISHED WITH COLD DRINKS AND LOTS OF ICE. I ALSO FURNISH THEM WITH SHADED BREAKROOM WITH OPEN SIDES AND WELL INSULATED ROOF, THAT GIVES COMFORT FOR THEIR WELL DESERVE BREAK., BY BEING WITH YOUR WORKERS ENDURING THEIR SUFFERING, THEY TEND TO FEEL THAT YEAH, WORKING UNDER THE HARSH CONDITION IS TOLERABLE AND ONCE IN A WHILE DONT BE ASHAME TO GET YOUR HANDS DIRTY BECAUSE YOU GAIN YOUR WORKERS RESPECT. BY THE WAY I AM THE PROJECT MANAGER OF MY COMPANY....

I can Suggest one remedy to boost the engery of a person who works in tiresome hot climate.Buy one BIO-DISK, which can enhance your energy by keeping it all the time. This is a latest updated technology which is getting popularity all over the world. We can give you guidance for it if anybody requires.

As somebody suggested, telephone is another incentive to motivate the labours, with time bound.

As per my opinion Chinnybaby's comment is not bad. Depends on your worksite condition you can fix your time. Now already lots of companies change their working hours in the afternoon shift will continue late evening.

This two shoft system (06:0 - 11:00 and 15:00 - 18:00)I don't thnk any benifit to the poor construction workers. Many companies (not all) if their site and workers accommodation distance is very far then they will not provide any transportation. This 4 break hours they have to suffer in the site.

Have a VoIP phone installed at the worker's camp. Start with a minimum of QR 200 daily budget, and given QR 10 worth of phone calls to 20 workers each day.

This will cost you the salary and expenses of not more than two construction workers, but would give the guys a boost.

You have to take into account that these guys work their behinds off to send less than QR 1000 home every month - a free phone call may not count for much, but at least it will give them something to look forward to in the evening.

You can pick your own method of choosing the 20 lucky workers that day, or increase the budget.

Best of luck

Salman

On a business prespective...if you want your people to be productive during the summer heat, I suggest that you start working on evening shifts. Start late afternoon until evening.

to ensure productivity of the people, you must compensate them well!

Maybe you could work outside all day in this heat and see how you would raise productivity?

Put yourself in your workers shoes.

Maybe a performance related pay bonus?
