Okay I get it about Doha now...
Everyone say they miss it when they leave...
OK it the one place where I as american can have friends form every country on earth...Even the palistine, afgan and all the countries that are kinda anti US treat me like a friend...So if we could all live like Qatar...
We could all get along...cause we are all here and we get along...Qatar is a melting pot just like US...
Did you see the Iran prostest in the the US...
Yes we have many Iranian in US...
US of the 70s is not the US of 2009...
So quit blaiming us for everthing...
The world is a melting pot now...]
Get use to it...
We have..
may Allah bless you.

The numbers are not the issue, rafsanjani. As you said in the other thread, 'one' is 'one' too many. Right?
The post is about Doha and the mingling of expats here..However, I will give you my personal opinion on your question..
In my view, you are correct. The end of the Vietnam war was brought about by the voice o the people as much as the realization by the government.
However, times have changed. People have become more fickle, the media has become less "neutral" and governments have become more savvy. This is my perception of the World overall. Many ofcourse would disagree.
As far as the incidents in Afghanisan. I would say that I am saddened by the number of innocents killed. It should not be acceptable within any society. The sad fact however is that whilst the government of Afghanistan allows this to continue, nothing will be done.
Lastly, accepting responsibility for deaths of innocents opens up the country to legal action. No country would therefore accept it..
10000 wasn't matching with 1.1 million in vietnam.
saddam was backed by USA at that time, !
for god's sake do some homeword before talking bout it !

"On March 16, 1988, the Kurdish town of Halabja was attacked with a mix of mustard gas and nerve agents, killing 5,000 civilians, and maiming, disfiguring, or seriously debilitating 10,000 more."
Why did the US, oops, Saddam Hussain do this?
i respect your views, and i did as well, coz you dont talk like the typical westerners in QL (who we call QL Mafia, lead by americans here also !) ...
the country where i am from (not iran ofcourse) is not as democractic as US, but, if the majority of our country's ppl DONT WANT something, we compell our govt. not to do that....
vietnam war... why has that been stopped brit? was that because USA realized that 1.1 million death of vietnamis were enough?
no man, it was because people of USA thought 10000 dealths of US soldiers were enough and then the ordinary people made it stopped !
god damn brit ! tell me who's resonsible for the dealth of a child of 2 years who just god killed in afghan last month ! dont tell me phylosophy ! tell me objectly, who is to blame?

We all get along because we are the outsiders here. So, we make an effort to get along oblivious of the politics and pettiness of the world at large.
In our own countries we are "influenced" by the politicians and the media. Thus we adopt a lemming mentality and do not always look at the whole picture.
Lastly , there are usually major differences between the actions of a government and the will of the people.
The percentage votes in some areas reached 140%. What an achievement :)

but, is that all?
the millions, i reapeat millions being killed coz of US policy and that is not only 70s !
sorry to say,
korean war, vietnam war, iraq war, afghan war--- USA fought directly and 'killed' millions !
and other wars, where US indirctly participated, like, Iraq-Iran war, Pak-india war, Palestinian war, civil wars in africa....
why vegus? only for oil or some billion dollars? worth more than million human lives?
its really unfortunate...
USA have changed, you want to say?
140 innocent people got killed in afghan last month vegus ! for god's sake !
