Like the recent survey on mobile phone use related to traffic incindents in Qatar.

The headline in the paper claimed 83% of traffic incidents were related to mobile phone use. They published the data and there was no way you could use the data to come to that conclusion. Basically the survey only proved that Qataris (they limited the survey to nationals) use their phones alot while driving. However their was no correlation in the data to incidents. However people are citing the 83% statistic as if it was proven fact.

If they haven't done it, and you believe it is simple to do, then we can only conclude that they don't want to.

Perhaps they are affraid of hearing things that they would rather ignore.

atif242,

They haven't done it because, it’s just a self promotion exercise and they think (the old school) it is sufficient to ask questions to some people and most important, to advertise on the paper.

It shows how much they really care about the actual traffic pandemonium.

For any professional of traffic design, it is more than obvious that no country operates this way to improve traffic!!!

This is just a show off, outdated and not genuine management approach.

This exercise serves only to show to the world that Qatar MOI, just opened a new department and is doing something, at the moment being entertained with some futile surveys and statistics.

A serious exercise of improvement is not done this way. The professionals on this area are laughing at the ridiculous, inadequate, immature, childish and almost insulting approach!

This survey is like the question asked to expats, here in Qatar Living by a Qatari, about what needed to be improved in Qatar. He would then convey our concerns and eventually they would be addressed...

Shows like this are a bit everywhere here, whenever somebody senses they can shine on the stage!

Sorry for the aggressive tone, but it is really frustrating to observe this level of professionalism, coming from a government department!

That what's surprises me. Why they haven't done it. Haven't u seen QTEL site, even their own www.moi.gov.qa SITE. It was redeveloped by IT ppl {in/out sourced} but they did it and it looks very much organized. So this means that QATARI govt has such IT ppl who can do it.

.

But i'm surprised why they haven't. It doesn't take much time. I have worked in software developing and made some electronic forms in the past and trust me its not that difficult at all

maybe they will send out beautiful-looking surveyors.LOL! Besides, if this thing is important to you, then give a little bit of your time. High-tech is OK, but human interaction is far more appealing. For me, really.**wink**

nicaq25, you're very right but with such busy schedule, traffic jams. Do u think that most of us will have the time to sit/stand there, fill the form, hear or give comments/feedbacks and all other related stuff.

.

Like myself, i'm living in (W) NUAIJA so can i drive all the way to MADINAT KHALIFA to fill that form. Ok if i do so then I will go to my nearest TRAFFIC station rather than wasting my time & fuel for that long distance

.

That's why ONLINE SURVEY is very important, fast & very efficient. You can collect multiple results from a single/multiple electronic form filled by users. In this way you can get all kind of results with just ONE CLICK instead of observing each and every form for your one requirement.

Well, yes, the country may well have great physical IT infrastructure (cables etc) but that doesn't mean the Ministry of Interior has trained data analysts who can perform such a survey.

I'm sure if the MoI *could* do it, they would.

But they haven't, have they?

to me is more appealing than online survey. As the surveyors can interact with the respondents and can get more actual response than just filing-up those forms/questionnaires.

Common fubar, its a HI Tech world and Qatar has that efficient IT infrastructure that they can handle traffic of participants and other IT related issues

They may have their reasons for not putting it online - the obvious one being that they are using paper copies and it's too hard to put it online.

Perhaps too they are targetting certain individuals for profiling - women, older drivers, younger drivers etc, and it will create too much extra work for them to develop and post a survey that can screen for this.

And perhaps they don't want a flood of responses from the same people since this will corrupt their data, and it will create a massive workload for the Ministry to assess all the responses.

And they may also figure that people with internet access are also more likely to have access to the MOI website, and therefore access to the laws online. This survey might be geared towards devising meaningful ways to communicate with people who don't have web access.

Just my thoughts. Market research companies could do all this very easily, of course!

Also, why they have chosen H.O. Traffic Dept. They must distribute their questionnaire at all Traffic Stations in QATAR. AS resident living outside of DOHA will never come to H.O. for any traffic related problems instead will only prefer which is located nearest to its house.

.

GOSHHHHHHHHH, WHY DON'T THEY USE THEIR BRAINS

Baldrick & Britexpat. I have sent my opinion to TOTAL QUALITY DEPT at [email protected] and I would ask other QL to post the same about ONLINE SURVEY FORMS in their MOI SITE.

.

THANKS

I'd like both too, but if I had to choose...!

It sounds to me that they aren't too interested in the public opinion regarding the traffic law itself, but more that they want to get a grasp on how well understood the road rules actually are:

"Lt Col al-Hajari said the survey, which will continue for two weeks, will evaluate the standard of the public awareness about the traffic rules and forward the suggestions to authorities concerned. "

I suspect a lot of people are trying to plead ignorance when they are given a violation for parking illegally, or not using a seatbelt, or talking on their phone while driving.

But like most things... who knows what's really going on?? Not me!

Fubar, I'd like both please!

"The official said the TQD has carried out a number of field surveys at various branches of the traffic department to assess the public opinion on the traffic rules."

They are carrying out the survey at a traffic department! Why? People there are either:

a) new drivers applying for a license and don't have a clue anyway, or,

b) people paying fines for not following the rules in the first place.

Their survey is going to be badly flawed from the outset and therefore totally meaningless!

Great, but I'd rather have quality roads rather than quality laws.

Why not link the questionaire to this site and they can get oodles of responses..

I am laughing because they are implementing a new thing (apparently they heard its fashionable, TQM...) they lack the management infrastructure/mentality to truly address any feedback and revise laws and by the way the enforcement is the problem! Do they really need these questionnaires to realize what the problem is? Couldn’t they start by themselves, being part of the problem?!

All make up facades, as usual!
