Will 'Bing' takeover Google's place?

Microsoft hopes to defeat Google as the internet user’s search engine of choice after spending millions of dollars to launch its new ‘Bing’ browser. Will Bing finally going to challenge Google’s dominance? Do we need a new type of search engine? And can Microsoft really hope to catch up with the web’s top site, particularly when many believe it struggles to overtake its giant rival?

Go to the forum for any of their software (all hosted on groups.google.com) and you'll see the lists of bugs, annoyances, missing features etc etc.

As an example; the 'contacts' section of gmail is woefully inadequate compared to many similar applications, and is the source of much annoyance on the help forum.

Google users have plenty of complaints. Just check their own forums. But because it's free there's only some much complaining you can do.

I like google, but it software suite has many weaknesses.

Microsoft VS Google...

None of Microsoft's products match up to Google's standards....although Microsoft has complete control on the user's PC.

Google has been terrific in almost all of its applications. Google users have almost zero complaints.

Google'S New email Google-Wave is another example

Microsoft says bing.com give users "guided search and a focus on task completion", they assume we're all stupid, just like they did in Vista and Windows ME.

The algorithms behind the search are a different approach to googles, so it's not a copy. They are attempting to solve problems in a new way. It remains to be seen if they have succeeded.

Google 'bing microsoft' for more info on the technology behind it :)

stupid copy of Google, with a huge image in the background. Why not a stupid huge animated silverlight 3d search???

They should know that to topple Google, they need to do what Google did: Something that solves people's problem in a way that was never possible.

Yea the name itself is not very appealing... Bling would sound better..lol

Google does need a competitor... but I don't think that Microsoft will come up with something revolutionary, so probably we will still be dominated by Google for some more years..

Microsoft always likes to emulate...they are poor in innovating.. Lets see what they got to offer!

Good Morning DMS..smokey...lol

Google became the de-facto search engine because of the algorithms it uses, and because of its simplicity.

Microsoft have apparently taken the search algorithm to a new level, resulting in more relevant results, so if people find this gives them a better search service then slowly but surely people will move across to it.

Microsoft are also realistic that they're not going to take over the search engine market over night, and they seem to be planning a staged approach, with new features roled out over time.

At the end of they day, it's good for more competition to be introduced, as it will force Google to up their game.

Bing is an awful name though.

I have a feeling its going to be the other way around...

I think Google's Operating System Android might overthrow Microsoft.....say 10 yrs down the line.

Microsoft has had its run....Bill is out of the Company....the interface is changing .....10 yrs hence people might be carrying 10 inch Tablet PCs and connected to internet 24/7..

...and Internet was never Microsoft's forte. While Google thrives on Internet.

I Think it will be Google 10 yrs hence.
