multiple entry visa

My mom, who is a US passport holder,currently stays with us Her visa was given upon arrival at the airport with a duration of 1month. Now my question/s:

1) How many times can she apply for an extension? Is the immigration office open on a saturday?

2) Is it possible for her to apply for a multiple entry visa to Qatar while she's here so that she can stay here longer (say 6months) and then just exit to Bahrain every 6months?

Sponsoring my mom as a family member is now out of the picture, so please dont suggest it :)
