Hello, our little boy is also coeliac. We have never found bread in THE Centre and what they have is very expensive. PM us and we can exchange Nos and info.
Gluten free bread is occasionally available at the Bateel Bakery which is located in the same plaza as the West Bay Petrol station in the Diplomatic Area. The Bateel Bakery on Salwa Road will get it for you if you order in advance. Otherwise, the Megamart stocks are the most reliable and they also carry a small range of 'TruFree'gluten free products from the UK as well as Nairns oatcakes.
You will GF products in both the above mentioned places, you can also find biscuits and pasta in both Lulu and Carrefore. The main problems are, there isn't a single place to do all your GF shopping, you have to go on 'missions' to find things and when you do, you buy them in copious quantities, and sourcing bread. It is possible to find mixes and bake them yourself or use naturally GF flours tapioca, rice, corn, etc to make your own using a recipe. Not a great solution if you dont like cooking tho!
However, as dismal as the situation sounds, there is light on the horizon. A lady called Jo has been in contact with a GF supplier in Bahrain (she supplies mail order, and has found out that the supplier is currently in negotiations with Lulu to provide a line of GF products in the very near future.
Until then, if you're stuck send me a message as i have a freezer full of bread and am happy to help.
Megamart is the supermarket located in the Centre behind Ramada Hotel. They have a small selection of gluten free products, but it's the best you will find in town. Q-mart is the store located in "the mall" on D-ring road. Don't think they have any dedicated gluten free or health food section like Megamart.
UB40, there is a place Behind Ramada Hotel, a small shopping center named The Center, inside you will find Qmart Supermarket; that's the only place so far in which you could find some gluten free products.
I do not know about flour and bread but as per cereals, cookies/snacks and pastas, you will find something there. Maybe by talking to them they might be able to provide you with some extra help.
