Bleak

Hey.
I'm feeling low. God knows why.. I have good friends (but most married or alot younger than me) here and I should be on top of the world. My gran died last weekend and even though I wasn't close to her, I am with my immediate family and I feel stupidly homesick. It's silly because I'm a mother of twins and I've been in the Middle East before, so I shouldn't be.

What's worse is I fell out with my best friend - he's male and it's an irreversable situation.. and I don't really like doing everything on my own again.. but I'll get used to it. Bleak.

Has anyone else been this homesick and lost? And how did you turn it around?

it hurts having to fall out with a bestfriend.let it go for a while and later on,settle whatever issue you have with him.

as for the death of a loved one, consider it a blessing as she will be with our creator.

till then take care.

What I know about these feelings are that they pass. . .but it sure hurts while your in it and don't see a way out. My life lesson to learn is patience. . .time heals all wounds. And as you mentioned, count your blessings.

Believe me, I come from the school of 'this too shall pass'. It will, it will. Just focus on doing positive things. Think how much your children love you...be glad for two weeks off work. Like you said, think in little steps...wish you the best.

I'm making it a mission to invite someone round so I can cry on them.. haha.. I can see the queues forming already!! I knew you lot would make me feel better. Again thanks so much. Q'sun.. soon... Hooooooooomme:) You going back soon too?

My folks are worried about me so I've broken it up into bitesizes- 2 weeks hols, 5 weeks in school, 1 week off, 5 weeks in school. FLIGHT!

Mandi. I miss having a close buddy. We did everything together, but I know I can't go back. It is a bit horrid right now but I know that it'll be cool. As Brtex and Fishermanalex said, I just need to stay busy and enjoy the kids.. and they are little stars:)

thank you!

I'm so sorry for your double loss. It does seem more painful when one is far from the emotional comforts of home. Be good to yourself, have a good cry, talk to a friend and then have some chocolate. When my dad died I was overseas also. I completely and consciously decided that I would not grieve at that time, I would put it off. It's been seven years and as a result of my "delaying tactics" I'm still grieving. It's OK to be sad in sad situations. Give yourself the time and permission to be both sad and self-indulgent for now.

thank you. I did have a good day with the twins today and my seven year old girl treated me to the 'Spa of Libby' when we got back to Dukhan. (It was interesting...;) Bless them.. it will get better I know it will.. just need the funeral over and to know that things are getting back to normal again at home. I feel better already.

Thanks so much for that.

This is one of the down sides of being an expat and distant from your country. The fact that we are far away makes us feel lonely and unattached.

On top of all this you have lost a best friend, so things are lousy.

The only positive is to focus on the kids and the joy they bring and they will help you come out of it.

Chin up :)
