Where is my PASSPORT!

As per the new Sponsorship Law had been ratified. There are still sponsors violating it or are not aware of it. My sponsor is still not releasing our passports, they already renewed our visas and gave us our ID's. Written in Peninsula newspaper:

"...sponsors not returning passports or travel documents of their workers after visa formalities are over, are to be fined up to QR10,000."

Are the men involved implementing this law doing random check's to companies or maybe they're only waiting for complaints before they do their jobs?

Whole article in The Peninsula:

So be it that I'll go and complain, will it do me any good? Of course I'll have my passport, but my sponsor will just fire me from my job and send me home or maybe frame me up and send me to jail. If that will be the consequence of my action, better yet to shut-up and leave it as is. I just hope Ministry of Labor will inform the sponsors or better educate them about the new Sponsorship Law so that there will be a fair treatment to all employees and sponsors as well.

CID's are sometimes roaming the country for illegal workers, they only check for RP's. How about if you're with your sponsor and CID's came, you'll just make a scene and after that tell them that your sponsor is keeping your passport, they are locals too, they may just smile at each other.

Lol Bald, too cute but bang on.

Suckr, if you want them to catch your sponsor go complain that he is holding your passport. You may need it when he sends you home.

Baldrick, It's much easier, send a few Qataris from the ministry of labor, as well as three big policemen to companies.

Let them round-up everybody, and then ask them one by one, with a firm voice "DO YOU HAVE YOUR PASSPORT?".

They will also catch many illegals.

How do you suggest they do the 'random check'?

"Hello company, do you have your employee's passport"

"No"

"Ok, good"

Well that won't work will it?

"Hello stranger it the street, does your company hold your passport?"

"No"

"Ok Good"

I guess that won't work either.

Yes, the only way the authorities can act is on complaints. If you don't have your passport, go complain. I'll wave you off at the airport.

"are to be fined" doesn't mean that they will be fined. It's only wishful thinking.
