How long it will take for a court case in Doha ?
I met with an accident , A Qatari who drove a car collieded head on with my car. I was trying to turn left and he came facing my car from the opposite direction and hit it hard, he was driving very fast, both cars were badly damaged . but police says its my mistake , i refused it , In that sitution i will have to go to courts for the verdict.
I have some questions regarding this matter, somebody may please help me answering these,
1. If i will be the culprit, will i have to pay for repairing his vehicle.( i have 3rd party insu.)
2. how long will it take to finish the court case (maximum)
3.Roughly how much will i have to spend for the court case?
4.Is it really difficult to win a case when the other party is a Qatari.
5. will i be unable to leave the country during the time case is being asked?
Pls somebody experience answer me, Thank you so much in advance!
Thanks everybody for valuable answers, My case is only a car accident, there's no personal injuries, I feel its better to accept the fault , rather than dragging it for long , thanks guys!
I'm afraid that if you are hit while making a left turn you will automatically be considered at fault. The vehicle turning left must always yield to oncoming traffic. Pleading mitigating circumstances generally doesn't help.
Yes, if you lose you will have to pay to repair his car.
Maximum time could be very long - depending upon when court is in session, if any medical certificates are needed, police reports, etc. [I had a court case (car accident, with personal injury) that took nearly 2 years to complete -- because the other guy kept NOT showing up to court, so they'd postpone things for a month, then he wouldn't show again...]
Don't get a lawyer. You don't need one. If you have a friend who speaks Arabic to help you, that will help things go more smoothly.
Yes, you can leave the country while the case is still in the system/undecided. Sounds like a relatively low-key car accident case, nothing that would cause you to be forced to stay in country.
Nationality shouldn't matter...but as I said, make sure you or a friend is there to speak/explain things in Arabic. The court-appointed interpreter often leaves a great deal to be desired...so bring your own to ensure that YOUR side of the story is adequately explained.
If you were turning left it is your fault as you are cutting across his lane. The case will probably be around 4 months after the accident, insurance will pay to fix his car but you could be fined anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 QR. Nationality doesnt matter, and I wouldnt bother hiring a lawyer for this one as there really isnt much room for argument over the police report.
I REALLY DONNT KNOW D ANSWER BUT I WILL PRAY 4 U THAT U WILL DEFINATELY WIN THIS CASE IF IT IS NOT UR MISTAKE....BEST LUCK TO U DEAR.
