Why do so many Qataris drive Toyota Landcruisers? I've never seen so many Landcruisers anywhere else in the world. What is so amazing about them? Surely they don't all look good in them? I think they are so unoriginal and boring. In fact I'm sick and tired of all these 4x4s everywhere. They suck!
Why does it bother you of who is driving what? Do we ask you what you drive and why? Do we make a mockery of you. I think all those who are making fun of the Qataris and LC owners have nothing better to do and probably carry the same attitude towards everyone and everything at their work and home alike. Sad to know you are such a liability on the planet. Go to another country where everyone will buy what you driver then. Sick!
The most reliable cars I feel as the BMW offers free service on these vehicles for 3 years. Besides who says offroad is good only with LC? I would prefer to take a BMW or Jeep Cheroke for offroad rather than LC as its much stronger than the LC. Gimme a break go to Toyota's service centre and get back your brand new Toyota with some scratches on it enabling you pay for the paint of the car next year.
That's what I don't like about Toyota here, the periodical maintenance (check up)is a pain in the neck . And spare parts are often out of stock because of super high demand!
I wanted to comment after Bleu (being he is Qatari) ....rightly said buddy.
Nowadays, my personal observation that LC 2008 and 2009 latest models are driven by Qatari's who really LOVES Toyota LC (not ready to compromise), while most of the status symbolic have moved to Taureg or Range Rover Sports, BMW X5/X6, Merc 4*4, etc.
All LC before 2007 been sold to my compatriots (Indians), if (SG) notice carefully all old LC are driven by other than Qatari communities. Rest other explained the Superb features of LC, accomodating big families, safe, dunes, long drives, fast resale, less depreciation and easily available and reasonable priced spare parts, etc...against American, Italian or German Cars.
SG, see how the know-how thread transit into classified AD...
LC is a reliable & safe car, & we are too in the process of buying one at the moment, either new or used, so anyone who wishes to get rid of their LC can contact me too :)
Audi and VW are car purchase suicide. Besides the enormous cost of parts, maintenance and a simple oil change the cars are worth next to nothing in resale.
I forgot to talk about resale value, I bought my LC in 2004 at 130k, in 2007, it was worth 130-135k (the newer model was more expensive). Today it's worth around 90-110k. So it lost around 6% per year.
My 2006 BMW is worth almost 30% of it's original price, it lost around 20% per year.
LC is a status symbol for qatari, I disagree. LC is just an everyday car for them, what's luxurious to them are:Lexus,MBenz,Bentley,Lamborghini, BMW, Ferrari & camel.
I don't like or dislike Land cruisers per se, but I was sort of contemplating how some perceive it as symbol status in "Qatar", it might be somewhere else.
Maybe because they associate it to locals, therefore we all have to Give Way..:)
it doesn't look bad, is it? Well, if it's a status symbol (per se), then I'd be rich too! (like qataris)....hehehe!, but no, what's good with LC is that:
1. Toyota, spare parts available anywhere.
2. Body case is more durable (at least the older models), 3. of course, it doesn't look as sexy as any other 4x4 vehicles, but boy! you can drive on the sand dunes & rough roads too!
lol, what happens if it is during the summer months when everyone is on vacation? Do they accept letters of intent in case you miss the deadline?
Seriously, LC are bought here because they are reliable, good for transporting the commonly large Qatari family, good off road, high resale value and readily available parts. Perhaps locals are just more savvy than we are and realize this is the best bang for their buck due to the practicality. Other 4X4's dont hold their value the way a LC does.
Maybe because its the most reliable offroad car. Africa and Australia are full of Landcruisers. Its the only SUV the United Nations buys for conflict areas, and they've bought 12000 in the last 5 years. that's 6 every day!
So maybe there are so many in Qatar because its a very tough & reliable vehicle and relatively inexpensive.
DUDE, THEY HAVE THE MONEY AND THEY CAN BUY IT AS LONG AS THEY WANT IT. NOTICE IT, THEY HAVE THE MOST EXPENSIVE CAR IN THIS COUNTRY. THAT'S THE SYMBOL OF MONEY... AND BESIDES THEY LOVE GOING INTO SAND DUNES & WHEN THEY FACED AN ACCIDENT THEY WILL JUST LEAVE IT ON THE ROAD WHICH WE CANNOT DO IN OUR COUNTRY... PEACE!!!
Dude the Land Cruiser is the simple result of some not having any interest in life. They chose the easiest way out to get from point A to point B... It's not a good car in any respect, but yet its easy to take care of around here, so they don't mind crashing them and all cuz they get fixed easily LOL...

Notice why there's little number of LC's that ain't white?

The roads of doha are full of dull and depressing cars & the Toyota Land Cruiser is a prime example.
Yes Japanese cars are reliable and American cars are cheap but you can't beat European cars on looks & style.
Umm, “pimp my ride” does miracles, I say!
Your spaceship is very much like a land Cruiser, if that’ll make you happy. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder..:)
Besides, you've made it worse for the author of the post..lol

I have heavily modified my KIA to take on these Land Cruisers..
Ouch! Amoud! thanks for the support

When almost every household has one, it's no more a status symbol, if it ever has been.
A BMW (dark red please) or another land cruiser on the road, which one would be more eye catching?
I now crave any car that is not white, be it green old Camaro or a yellow H3..)

it's the best thing on the sand dunes since the camel

think about it ... very smart...
Amoud, and when we sell it, we can only remain LC-less for a maximum period of 3 months. After that, they just take away the nationality...
:) :) :)
simply a reliable and easy maintainance 4X4, and its not that bad in looks either.
It is a pre-requisite of being Qatari. One of the questions on the passport application form is if you own a Landcruiser.

Guys, please stop the Qatari bashing, some of the replies here are idiotic...
A landcruiser has never been a "Status Symbol" for Qataris, a LC is priced between 150k and 200k, and everybody has one!!
A "Status Symbol" would be a car worth more than QR 400k, something like a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bentley, And High-End Porsche, Mercedes, BMW .
It is the most convenient car to drive here on-road, and off-road (not much difference between on-road and off-road in Qatar).
It's usually white because it doesn't get very dirty with all the dust storms.
I like them.. Well not the 1's with the long Antennas at the back.. :)
Its a very sturdy car and very relaiable off road.. n it doesnt cost much to get ti serviced etc...
Plus its a must have for every local no matter how many lambos or ferraris they have u will always find a land cruiser as well in there garage..
U always get more respect on the roads just driving 1 ... ITs lame but true !!!
Maybe because its the most reliable offroad car. Africa and Australia are full of Landcruisers. Its the only SUV the United Nations buys for conflict areas, and they've bought 12000 in the last 5 years. that's 6 every day!

and absolutely a status symbol and always gets a way in any traffics.. simple... cool

yeah ...status symbol!
status symbol =)
Ok, don't buy 4x4 or Toyota Landcruiser.
Personally, I don’t mind big cars, but I do mind bad driving.
