Aussies in Qatar?

Hi everyone!

I'm an Aussie living in Qatar, and as there is no official 'group' for Aussies, I thought I'd post and see how many others are online here. If you're Australian (or from New Zealand - we accept Kiwi's too), please leave a message here! Would love to see if we can get a big enough group for social events!

For those who may have joined the group but find themselves 'kicked off'... this is because you have not listed 'Australian' as your nationality. You'll need to change that (and let me know!!) before you request to be added to the group again.

For those who have posted here and haven't added themselves to the group yet, most (if not all) of you should have received a pm from me reminding you to join the group.

For privacy and security reasons, I won't be publishing the whens and wheres of get-togethers on the forum - only sending out a group email to those in the 'Aussies in Qatar' group, so if you wish to come, PLEASE make sure you're in the group!!

There's been a few randoms adding themselves to the group, who don't appear to be even remotely Aussie, and since the point of the group is AUSSIES in Qatar, there are several who have been removed, and membership is now moderated (i.e. If I look at your profile and I don't see your nationality as Aussie, I will decline your request!)

I hope to arrange the very first group meet in the next 2 weeks :) If anyone has suggestions about where, please pm me! I'm not a Doha-ite, so those who are "locals"... suggest away! :)

isnt there a better way to join or to view the group's activity?

I just got an email confirmation too! Must be a manually managed list and perhaps the person who manages it has been rather busy!! lol. :)

I just emailed this address [email protected]. I think I got a "template" email to say that I had been included in the group. Maybe you should give it a couple of days.

Laboheme - Apparently email is the best way. I only got a response asking what nationality I was... and received no confirmation, so I assume they generally don't send an email confirming you have been added to the list. Just wait and see! :)

I have emailed Anziq but can't seem to get any responses - is there a special way to join up for info?!

Sounds good Deb, I'll join the group so there'll be at least 2 people! I only got here a couple of weeks ago, so I have no idea where to eat! Does anyone want to go to the Muesuem of Islamic Art this weekend?

Hi everyone! Thanks for the posts! I've been living here since August last year, and only now heard about ANZIQ! Will join that group too, but think it's a good idea for us to start a group here on QL too.. Will set up a group here, and will organise something social for in a few weeks' time and post details here. :) Does anyone have a favourite place to eat?

Hi, I have just recently arrived in Doha (10 days!) and would love to get inolved in some social events and catch ups too.

Hi, I'm an Aussie living in Qatar! I just moved here close to two weeks ago. I joined up to ANZIQ, you just have to send an email to them and they will include you on group emails. I'd be interested in any catch ups. In the social forum, there was a guy organising a tour for a night in the desert, but I was too late to RSVP - I've read it's something you should do in the Middle East!

but surely will join you in any event after May...

cheers
