34th AMIS Festival at ASD
Yesterday another QL'er notfromhere invited me to attend 'The 34 AMIS International Honor Band and Choir Festival Concert'. This year hosted by American School of Doha. Attended by over 35 International Schools and American Schools from around the world.

Our QL'er Dimtorch was the violist accompanist during The Woman's Choir. He performed with another lady violist. Dimtorch did some 'acting' during the Cripple Creek song, and it made the audiences laughed.

I enjoyed the throughout performances. The pieces they played are fun and light. I sat with notfromehere, crescent and her daughter. Crescent's daughter enjoyed herself so much and clapping during some songs.

Notfromhere told me how AMIS doing the audition. The students have to record their performance and send it to their head office in London, the recording being sent without school's name and student's name. Only number. From there AMIS choose the qualified student to perform on the festivals. So sometimes you will see only 1 students represent a certain school, and sometimes 3 or 4 students represent another schools.
The organization fonded by Richard and Georgia Basset 1975. The first concert was held in 1976 and for the first 15 years the festivals were held at American School of London (ASL).

In 1991 The Honor Band and Choir Festival first moved to another venue, since that time the idea for this festival is that events should move locations between various member school. And for this year (last night) helf in American School Of Doha.

A really tremendous music event in Doha and a wonderful audience. I traveled from my home in the United States to visit my choral conductor friend Elena Sharkova in Doha as she rehearsed and conducted the Womens Choir at the American School. We had a good time and had enough time to visit the old souk and City Centre shopping mall. I visited the beautiful new Museum of Islamic Art. I hope to visit your country again and have more time to learn about Qatar, Abu Dhabi and the U.A.E.
The Doha video of the "Libertango" concert performance on Qatar Living.com is really great! In 2008 Maestra Sharkova recorded a YouTube video "Rehearsing Libertango" for her concert appearance in San Antonio, Texas USA with a choir of over 160 women.

At the end of the concert, it was awesome to see all of the performers on stage. We all saw how music can join people together. It was another enjoyable event with good friends.
