Qatar Bids for World Cup...

Asian Games are not the world cup, after the Olympic Games bid, it seems qatar did not miss any bid... maybe for the miss universe pageant...As long as Qatar does not respect the human rights and therefor did not make any change in its way of treating the foreign workers, there should not be the slightest hope for any international event...try maybe the camel race derby

new Residence Permits with a football hooligan classification, to make the experience real for everyone. (They don't have the expertise in country so they need to import it....)

all drunk/exited/football hooligans cud be directed to city centre on a Friday during the "no stinky bachelors" rule time. Lets see city centre handle the situation then eh ??

I'm surprised they didn't do a joint bid with the UAE and Bahrain, then they would have enough venues.

But in the long run it doesn't matter, there's a lot of human rights issues that need to be cleared up before they can successfully get anything.

I've no doubt that by 2018 Doha will have the facilities and infrastructure to host that many visiting spectators. Remember that they met those criteria for the 2016 Olympic bid.

However, the difference with the Olympic bid is that Doha was bidding for it. It is Qatar bidding for the World Cup bid, and I don't realistically see anywhere other than Doha being able to facilitate all the visitors. One of FIFAs main criteria for hosting a world cup is that the matches and accommodation and facilities must be spread across several cities in the host country.

THey don't even have enough Watering Holes for the thirsty Soccer fans let alone host them ....What a Joke!

Without imagination their is nothing!

For all the reasons you guys have already stated -- summertime temperatures, lack of appropriate infrastructure, poor public transit system, and Qatar's poor human rights record with the migrant labor population -- there's no way in hell they will make even the first cut.

It's all for publicity, keeping Qatar's name on people's tongues, enhancing its profile.

Lets look at this realistically and please leave out the Qatar bashing.

The WC is normally played in July or August and the earliest it can take place is June. So on that basis alone Qatar's bid is a non-starter. They is no chance of it moving either later in the year or earlier as that would clash with the European leagues and Europe is where the money and the power is and they would not let it happen. Imagine finishing a European season without your star players because they are at the WC!!!!

Sorry but this bid is just to publicize Qatar a bit more and I don't blame them for that.

What I don't understand is where they plan to host all the matches. A football world cup is hosted by an entire country, and matches are spread out around various towns/cities within that country. It is not feasible to hold all the matches in Doha for many reasons, and no other places in Qatar have the facilities to host matches. I'm surprised the bid was even accepted because of this point.

Realistically they should bid for such games ...after solving the transportation problems...or at least after the metro materialises.....

Today there are enough Hotels for the tourists to stay...but taxis & transportation are a real problem.

if qatar finish above or even close to australia in either bid i'll walk naked down the corniche.

they haven't a hope in hell of securing an event like this.

as i've said previously, the bid is purely out of spite for not getting the olympics...and they weren't even close!
