Kiddie Projectiles. Height of Recklessness
I snapped this one on the afternoon school run last week. Once the driver realized he was being photographed he prompted the children to wave.
This guy driving this van should be arrested. These kids were about 3 and 4, and were jumping on what seemed to be a matress in the back of this van (they were getting some pretty good height on whatever it was).
I was driving behing him at around 80 (passenger seat, hubby was driving). Imagine what could happen....
yesterday I pulled up next to a nice car with an couple inside. The mother had a very small baby in her lap in the front seat. The car seat was in the back, empty. I honked, rolled down my window and promptly gave them an earful. Their excuse--"she cries if we put her in the carseat"! Idiotic parents don't deserve children. I GIVE UP!!
i presume they'd knew what seatbelt is used for... but there are, not some... who didnt knew that seatbelt are for safety... but only for police to ticket them...
so when there's no police... they're not buckling seatbelt..

Lol, Heero what did people use "back then"? Camels? I guess perhaps you had to be here, it was still quite a busy city back then too.

10 years ago you couldnt even find a car seat for sale here
That's because you possibly couldn't have seen that aplenty of vehicles roaming around Doha that 10 years ago.

These drivers have no sense of security. They usually do "school runs" to make money.
The resposibility lies squarely with the parents to ensure that their children are safe.. The sad fact is that usually money takes precedence over safety.
Anything to do with driving here seems to be fucked.
Alexa's rite
Harry, you dummy. "Hubby was driving".
Harry, if you read I said my husband was driving and I was in the passengers seat?

So Amoud was taking pics whilst driving.
There may be an unwanted conflict, Amoud. Since Q-Tel is mainly government owned, they appreciate it when the mobiles are used 24 hours a day. So why should they crack down on the users if they would loose money?
I also hope they crack down on the talking on the phone...

I think for many Qataris the car is sort of a 'private' sphere. They do what they do at home inside the cars, too. (Not everything, of course). They eat, they drink, the make phone calls, the watch TV, they read the newspaper, and they let their children play. Just like they would do at home.
The driver was indian and the kids were arab....
I am amazed that 5 years ago they cracked down on labourers riding in the backs of pickups and such but this is not even given a thought.

are all those kids in the school buses more than 10 years old? Are school buses exempted from seatbelt law?
"dgoodrebel will always be the rebellious good one"
how do you know??? Aahh it was their mother?....maybe they were being kidnapped!! OMG!!
that the rear seat passengers have to wear their seatbelts. Only last year did they pass the law that children under 10 cannot be in the front seat.
I am thinking that. 10 years ago you couldnt even find a car seat for sale here, 5 years or so they started to come around, now they are everywhere you go.
I have to mention this not the kids father driving the van.... ____________________________________________________

Gypsy, that's too much!

Anyhow, Amoud. The next time you should blacken out the license plate, and if you want, take the photo to the police before you publish it. (Just an advice)
Amoud didn't you know that the Health and Safety Commission has adviced using children as airbags? They're much softer and more durable then normal airbags, and less expensive to replace (if you dont' count food costs till they die).
Most of QL is talking in the wind MD, there is more useless stuff on here than this.

Sure, Amoud. But aren't we talking in the wind? Those who follow the traffic rules won't do what your photo shows, and those who don't won't look at the photo.
OK MD, so at least you see the point of the post...

why not? does anyone really care? The parents don't give a toss so why should anyone else??
In my line of work I've seen a few results of these accidents......makes one hard I'm afraid
love it when you're the one executing those punch line!

Dora, how can you be so 'sarcastic'?
"May you one day come across an accident resulting from something like this."
My children wear seatbelts in the rear seat of the car, amoud. But parents here obviously are different. That's what the picture shows, that's what we can see everyday, and that's what we are going to see everyday. So, what?
Mobile air bags.....lifesavers! The way forward!
MD what is your issue? Are you such a miserable person that you feel the need to come to a post to which you obviously care nothing about and make a comment like this?
May you one day come across an accident resulting from something like this and then say so what. ____________________________________________________

feral......sums it up...
What should happen? They might get killed. Happens everyday. So what?
truly remarkable eh? they're just as bad as those who have half the brains to let their child sit up front without seatbelt... :/
