I have been offered 2 jobs in Qatar and need some help to make sure they are enough to have a comfortable life (not extravagant)
15k per month
6500k House allowance
Free 4x4 inc fuel
Medical
This would be for myself wife and daughter, until my wife found a job.
The amounts are in qtari money.
hello everyone.
I am US citizen thinking about a job offer in Qatar. I wanted to have an idea about the cost of living there. I am married and have 2 kids ( 4yrs and 1 yr old). I live in a 4 bedrooms house and own 2 cars. I make $80K a year. How much money I have to be making in Qatar to maintain the same life style and to make the job and the move more attractive to me and the family. thank you very much.
The guy is british so I am doubtful he will put his child in any other school system other than british.

my dear .. i said minimum 12000 .. iam paying 23000 for my child annually .. but the minimum .. like lebanese school .. indian school .. philipino school .. this school you can pay this amount ...
good luck
If u are from an Asian country, I woudl say it is a very good offer.
Since you are from a westernised society, the concept of a house goes with a villa with swimmming pool etc etc,, which is not possibel with 6500
And to say, is it at par with the local salaries, it is difficult to say without knowing your background and education and the positon.
I'm basing my comments on the fact that you are from the UK right?
Your housing allowance isn't sufficient, so you will be dipping into your salary to pay for housing. Qr8000 for tidy but very basic 2br apartment, Qr10,000-12,000 for decent quality apartment, Qr13,000-15,000 if you want more space in a 3-4 bedroom compound villa. Check out www.zukhrof.com and www.alemadi.com.qa for rentals including photos. This will give you an accurate idea of what you will pay to get what you want.
Schooling will also drain your salary but can sometimes be negotiated into the package.
Depending on your field of work and experience you could do a little better. In saying that, your wife will have no problem picking up a job once she is under your family visa. Bear in mind she is unlikely to get housing allowance etc as a local hire. More likely to be a straight salary. Best of luck.
I am not sure which Brit based schools are only 12K annually. English nurseries here are running around 2400 per month, and tuition in any decent school will start at around 20K per year.
If you can get them to throw in schooling you are set, but I still think the housing is low.

negotiate! i know this might not be the time with the financial crisis and all but if you can add 5k between base salary and housing allowance it would be a much better over all offer...you can still live off this don't get me wrong, just not as comfortably.
With the current situation, I think it is enough for the mean time, and as you said your wife will soon have a job of her own.You can spend all your salary then and save your wife's.

both jobs are paying basically the same, the difference is minimal.
please clarify if the amounts for 2 jobs as you have mentioned.
For a comfortable life, you can live with this amount considering that you have only your wife and your daughter. Your wife too can help afterwards.
I think the offer is just reasonable.
15k per month
6.5k House allowance
Free 4x4 inc fuel
Medical free!!
This is a very good offer if you’re graduate or under graduate!
But at the same time I would say if you’re a professional, a doctor or an engineer, then the offer should be a little bit higher.
The housing is way too low. You will need at least 10,000 for a decent 2 bdr flat with no frills. Rents are coming down but I dont see 6,500 being sufficient any time soon.
Depending on where you are working and your position, 15,000 is a high junior or mid entry level position.
Please someone correct me if I am wrong as I am a government employee and you all know we make oodles of money lol.
