Doha bank network was down....really upset...

I went to Doha bank today to clear a cheque.I was shocked to hear the Bank network was down due to some technical error. I waited there there for 4 to 5hrs and the network was not restored till then . I cant believe that the Banks here doesnt have expereinced IT teams who can handle this issue. The staffs there have been mentioning that the IT team was looking into the issue . The issue not getting solved even after 4 to 5hrs does show how ineffecient the IT team they have. Whenever new expreinced IT guys enquire about IT jobs there in any Bank, officials claim to have the best IT problem solving techies, so they dont need to entertain anymore less experienced guys in the department. Todays issue really proves how the IT team are performing. I really want to hear the Bank's explaination about the ineffeciency of thier IT Team .
Later the bank staff says that the Entire Bank network of qatar has come down. So that itself proves that the current IT teams of all banks in qatar cannot solve the issue that has been there for 4 to 5 hrs. Really interesting and sad .
I have been using IT enabled bank services in other asian countries. Till now any of sort of issues related to IT enabled bank services will be solved in 1 to 2 hrs
I really doubt the selection process through which the IT teams have been selected for many years,,,Was the Selection process made on grounds of knowledge,expereince or just on the grounds of contacts with higher officials. Banks have to keep in mind that their bussiness and profit not only benefits the banks also the reputation of the the most Promising Qatar.So if any part of the Bussiness is not reaching the standards,,, it has to be rectified for maintaining Qatar's reputation.
Today the issue was related to BANK's IT enabled Services... Tommorrow the issue can esclate to others fields of bussiness.
I would request all the BANKS to upgrade their IT team's effeciency so that any issues in the further can get solved as quick as possible. The services that the customers get these days is not worth for the high investments you guy do in your IT service teams...
You guys really got to consider and think abt this .
Negligence on your part.will cost your bussiness at this time...
I fully agree with the comments made by maxboy, 99% + availability of the systems in itself shows the ability of IT team of the organization. One should not blow things out of proportion. everyone else will agree too that one can not judge the ability on an incident or two.
Banks in Qatar have been providing 24X7 services and mainly due to their good infrastructure of technology which enables all of us to use the services at our own will and pleasure. Banks must have built redundency in infrastructure to have high availability. such failures can happen which are usually not in control of anyone however the good part to understand is that the issue is resolved or not...
I believe, bank must have taken enough measures not to have such issue repeated and that is what we should be looking at positively.

if it is about the efficiency of the IT Team of this bank, then let me tell you it can happen anywhere.... Do you remember the incident of Abu Dhabi Airport last year which remained shutdown for 8 hours due to a virus in their computer systems.
If you recall, major banks including Doha bank, CBQ and QNB remained down for 4 to 5 hours last year as well..... that was because during a construction work one of the Fibre cables of QTEL was damaged and they took some time to repair it.
again last quarter of 2008, you could not use ATM cards of most Banks while shopping for a whole day as there was a problem in Qatar Central Banks system....

All the banks in doha operate 24x7 as they offer you many online services.
There are 8760 approx hours in a year......... what if a bank remained down for 4 to 5 hours....... which is 0.5 % downtime........
Do you call somebody performing 99.5% inefficient.......

Do you mean that customers right to get good service and support from bank is really bad. Frnd ,we customers are bringing bussiness for the banks.We are not asking for the money that banks own.. its the money that we earn by hard work and give it to bank so that they can run a bussiness. Please consider to change your statement that you made .
And.. one more thing you better get informed. Bussiness is Bussiness let it be small or big... the ineffeicent employees has to work alot instead of making statement that the issue can occur sometimes, or has occured for others also.
The solution to bank network issue is not always correcting the technical issue. its about maintaining some backup so that incase some issue comes the customers wont feel the inconvenience,
Yesterday the customers really felt the inconvenience caused as a part of the negligence by managments of Doha bank and other banks .Managment shouuld have planned things well instead of claiming that the customers are being served well.
If the bank fails to serve the customers properly its better the
bank stop the bussiness and go for other things. Why should customers stop working and leave the country. There are other banks who are ready to serve the customers very well .When one goes automatically other will take the place.
Accepting the ineffiency and working on the issue will be good rahter than making crap statements.

And yet I received three SMS promotional messages today. Fairly more than the usual (which is one per day). Weird.
3 of us waited for nearly 5 hrs to do 20 mins police statement in arabic.
Living in Qatar your treshold will be stretch as long as its necessary.
"Questioned?". Fired and deported! I tried to order SAT and TOEFL exam results to send to several universities. "The credit card cannot be authorized". At 4 o'clock at night it was authorized. What a shame! Which stupid amateurs are there in charge?
Is it just nice to ignore these in-effeincies as those that occurs normally. Each people in Qatar including Qataris and Expatriates has to do some important role in the process of attaining great promising "QATAR" . These ineffeciences should be brought to the attention of Qatar Government official through any means, The bank officials responsible for this ineffeciency should be questioned..
Nothing, absolutely nothing in Qatar is done professionally, absolutely nothing. This is an 'amateur' state.

These things happen, to all types of businesses in all countries. I can't believe you waited there for 4 or 5 hours. Now THAT's inefficient!
