Another story of an Idiot Driver

Driver’s prison sentence suspended
By Nour Abuzant
A driver has been convicted for causing the death of two passengers after his car flipped over on its way from Al Khor to Doha on July 12, 2007.
The man, an Egyptian, was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment but the court suspended the punishment “considering his family circumstances”.
His driving licence was suspended for a month besides being ordered to pay, jointly with the insurance company, QR150,000 to the family of each of the two Syrian victims – aged 39 and 40.
The court involved the insurance company in the case although the accident took place two weeks after the expiry of the vehicle’s insurance policy.
Legal sources said that the court considered the one-month grace period after the date of expiry while ordering the insurance company to pay the money.
The accident took place two days after the accused, 53, passed the driving test. Although he had failed to collect the licence from the Traffic Department, the public prosecution did not charge him for “driving without licence”.
A traffic police officer told the court that the Egyptian was driving his 24-year-old car carrying seven passengers from Al Khor, and that the passengers had agreed to pay him for transporting them to Doha.
“On the way, the right rear tyre burst and as a result, the driver lost control over his vehicle. It flipped over killing two of the passengers and injuring five others, three of them critically.”
One of the injured passengers is entitled to receive QR732,000, according to the court. The other two have to wait for the final medical report on their status and they can apply to the relevant civil court at a later stage.
The officer said that high temperature might have caused the tyre to burst.
The court found that the accused driver was responsible for the accident “because he did not take the necessary measures before carrying eight passengers.”
The survivors told the investigators that the accused was speeding at the time of the accident.
The ruling is still open for appeal.

Lesson to be learned here... if someone walks out infront of you, accelerate, don't break... it's cheaper.

not really x-ray. the injured passenger needs a huge amount of money for his rehabilitation. for the dead ones, i assumed it is for their burial and perhaps, damages, to the family. sad but that's reality:(

there are obvious worn-out tires, but for not so obvious, who decides? And I agree with Samael, not all blow-outs happens because of worn-out tires!

lmao one person mentions the possibility of a worn tire and BAM, everyone thinks that is the case.

Blow outs happen a hell of a lot, not always from worn tires.

ok how is any of that possible? What are the traffic officers thinking that it is ok to transport 7 people in a vehicle... no doubt it was a sedan and not a van!!

I can not get over the sheer stupidity and lack of fear for peoples safety here! Children ride in the car without seat belts, they cram 5 people across a back seat of a car although there are only enough seat belts for 3 people if they are lucky.

why are people so careless with their lives and other peoples lives? Honestly!!!!!

Well i guess he was idiotic in his irresponsability.

Either way, i think we are focusing on a very pointless part of what is loss of human life in the end of the day. It's sad when we live in a world that just seems to desensitize you to things like this.

"Two passengers die" - The driver was an idiot

"Someone stole a puppy" - Aw this is a discrace, how could someone do such a thing, i hope the puppy is ok

I don't think he was doing anything more idiotic than you see lots and lots of people doing every day here. An overcrowded car and speeding are very common sights in Doha.

Not picking up his license was the most idiotic thing, in my opinion. The insurance was not an issue since there is a grace period (which is useful to know!).

Cant say Idiot, he may have been driving for years in his country Andrews, not all nationalities here get licenses as easily as we do.

As for the amount of people in the car I agree this is irresponsible but must also again say that he was transporting consenting adults who can count the number of people in the car and the seatbelts.

Amoud.

He passed the Driving Test two days back and even before collecting his License and renewing his vehicle's insurance, he started providing transportation in a 24 year old car for 7 adults...(Total eight persons including him) and above all he was speeding too

He is not a idiot??????

Lol, ramshinaudshad, 24 year old cars are very common in many parts of the world.... only the GCC seems to be the land of shiny new SUV's.

I would have to say he was irresponsible in the fact that he had so many people in the car but cant say he is an idiot driver as the cause of the accident was a burst tire.

In fairness, he was transporting grown men, who were fully aware that there were not enough seatbelt etc. The guys were looking for an affordable ride, and to say he is operating an illegal taxi can be argued as we in the west carpool and share petrol costs (although we may not have a dozen people in a car designed for 5)
