PRICELESS’ COLLECTION in Qatar
An ancient gold coin, now in Qatar, has just been officially authenticated as genuine.
The coin, known as the Dinar of the Standing Caliph, Abdul Malik bin Marwan al-Umawi, is potentially so priceless that the owners are reluctant to put a tag on it. The validation came from Dr Samir al-Khadem, president of the Numismatics Society of the Arab and Islamic World, headquartered in Beirut. The 22.8 carat coin was “minted during the seventies of the first Hegira century (74AH – around 690 in Gregorian calendar)”, al-Khadem has told the owners. Pictures show the two sides of the Dinar of the Standing Caliph, Abdul Malik bin Marwan al-Umawi.
