Hanging artwork on concrete walls
We are finally ready to start hanging our art, photos, etc., which is a new adventure with these concrete block walls. We plan to have the compound maintenance guys drill the holes and install the hanging "devices" since we don't have the right type of drill.
My question is regarding what type of hanging "devices" are available here in Qatar? I've seen screws to hang artwork. I have also seen "L" shaped "hooks" - with the "L" laying on its back and the top of the "L" inserted into the wall.
Our art has all sorts of hangers on the back - the saw-tooth kind, wire, the type where a nail/screw has to fit into a "hole" in the hanger and one other type (I think). I've never used the "L" type hanger. . .are they pretty much good for any type of artwork? It seems like they stick out pretty far and, at a minimum, could put the "art" at a funky angle.
Are other types of hangers available? Any tips? We have a good 70+ things to hang in our house and I don't want to screw up on the first 58 before getting it right!
Thanks,
Expat Sueño
(disclaimer: I use the term "art" very, very loosely. . .we don't have much in terms of "real" art!!)
Maybe it's just me, but I almost always manage to break the little pin thingies off when I hammer those plastic hangers.
Last time I needed something hung, I called the compound maintenance guys. They brought their own drill and hanging device. Looks like a nail inside an anchor. They were in and out of here in about 30 seconds.
No more hammering for me! :-)
The plastic hook things with the 3 little pins to fix them to the wall are the most versatile and I use them for evrything . No need for drills and stuff you just tap em in with ahammer and they dont crack the plaster either.
Didn't think of it phonetically :)
Souq Wakif is the same as Old Souq, near to the Amiri Diwan.
Regards!!!
What great info!
BTW, where is Souq Wagiff?
all type of hangers are available in souq wagiff - house of arts
They're called 'hard wall hangers' and even tho they're just little bits of plastic, will support the heaviest and largest of pictures, frames etc. They're amazing! For your biggest pieces, I suggest using two.
Will check them out the next time I'm in CF, which seems like 12x/day!
I threw the packets away so not sure exactly. They have 2 different sizes. The heavy duty ones hold a surprising amount of wieght.
Did you Google it first?
Any idea how much weight do they hold?
Some of our stuff will definitely need to be screwed into the wall, but the hangers sound like a great solution to for the smaller stuff.
Mine are on platic U shaped hooks nailed into the wall. They are available at Carrefour in the hardware aisle.
