CPA or ACCA
Hi friends,
I am in qatar on a visit visa. By god's grace i shud be getting into some company as an accountant in qatar itself. Now, being an MBA Finance gradute with one year of experience in Hedge Funds accounting, i wish to extend that a little more. I am planning to take up any of the below two course...one of which i can do it simultaneously with my Work here...
1.CPA
2.ACCA
Now, my first priority is CPA. But what are the rules n regulations for applying CPA? Should i go to US for writing the Exams? Or can i write the exams here itself? Will i get an opportunity to go for some classes during weekends ...just to clarify my doubts..??? Are there centres in doha for it???
All the above questions apply for ACCA as well, except for going to US...
And above all, how long is this CPA course duration...And how long is this ACCA Course duration.?
Someone kindly consider this genuine and please do help me out..
Thanx in advance

Bravo! Omer Shah described it all!
MCQ's are multiple choice questions as you get in your board exams in objective papers.
you have four answers to a question n have to choose the correct one.
first three papers of ACCA are completely MCQ based online papers.
last 11 papers have some portion of MCQ but 80-90 percent written.
ACCA will generely take 2 years and each term is of six months.
exams held in june and december.
for acca you must have atleast a bachelors degree in any major subject or u shud b 21 years of age.
ACCA have four levels and each one is for six months.
1- introductory
2-intermediate
3-advanced
4-core papers
and in between of intermmediate level you can opt for writting a thesis which is bout 5000 above words to gain a bachelors degree in account from OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY.
when u complete ACCA you can take 3 more month to write another degree which is master in finance.
this is all about ACCA and i dn knw that much about CPA.

NASBA is the governing body in USA which gives the uniform CPA exam and each state has its own regulations with respect to the exam but the overall governing body is NASBA
CPA would be a little more valuable than Indian chartered accountancy but almost equivalent to ACCA. The only advantage that CPA has is that you become aware of the US GAAP and the IFRSs, whereas with ACCA, you can choose between UK GAAP and IFRSs. Eventually every country will adopt IFRSs and so for me, there is not much difference between the different accounting bodies as at present.
All i can tell is answers for two questions
1. MCQ means Multiple Choice Questions
2. ACCA yes its a UK Based certification
But even i dint understand what is that NASBA??
We got to wait for our masters advice

Dear Berbaroon,
It s a fantastic answer. Really I always wanted to know
can you pls a little elaborate ?..for non-Finance people
what is MCQ ?
ACCA is a UK based certification ?
which is considered top than other ?
Is the CPA is the same of CA of India ?
ACCA is having course contents of Costing ..like ICWA ?
Pls elaborate..
Non-financial people like me get some knwoledge . :-)
ACCA - 14 papers: You can study here and give the exams here as well. It is the largest professional accountants body in the world.
CPA - 4 papers: You have to go to the US to give the exams, although NASBA has plans to introduce international CPA exams as well, but that has not been finalized yet.
Exams for both bodies are tough but in CPA, you just have to go through MCQs, whereas ACCA requires you to write the exam rather than just MCQs.
Best of luck
