Transcending Race or Colour!
Watched a Will Smith film last night and it got me thinking..
In a world full of race and bias, he is amongst a handful of people I know of who transcend colour. I don't see him as Black, or African American, but as perhaps just a human being.. NEUTRAL !
Others being:
Nelson Mandela
Barack obama
Morgan Freeman
Denzel Washington
Perhaps you can suggest others....
My question though is WHY ?
SO britexpat have elevated these few from black to humans, good for them

If you want to talk about racism, pointing out the few successful blacks is not a good way to start the discussion.
Hmm, they are already dead but i stil would like to refer John Paul II and Mother Teresa

Must admit, Mandela is absolutely awesome.. His presence and demeanour alone are something to behold..
SolidSnake9 - Hamas was voted in by the those in Gaza - in what was apparently a democratic election. U might not agree with their policies, but at the end of the day, the election results (and I have not seen any reports that actually say otherwise) do reflect the Palestinian point of view. Again, u might not agree with them, but that is another point of view, and u can see, considering the circumstances, why so much support is pushed their way.
Yes, but until then we need these iconic figures (eg Obama and Mandela) to help put everyone on a level playing field.

Perhaps from mine and Keith's posting , we are seeing that we are moving in the right direction...
In my familly we are a strange mix indeed . Of 3 brothers we are all married to different nationalities. African , asian , and european. It wasnt untill on holiday together a few years ago that a friend pointed out that we are rather a cosmopolitan mix and did it ever seem strange . I surprised her when I told her it had never really occured to me, which surprised her even more. Infact its great cos we all share our different holidays that are relevant to our own cultures .
I try not to think in relation to colour with people, but rather as individuals.
I see them all as BLACK, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I wouldn't say that some blacks are "NEUTRAL" just because they are celebrities, it would be some kind of disrespect for all the less-known blacks.
If they transcend race, why is they all black? Innit?
Speaking of Will Smith, here's a link for you.
Ok Talking about colour..
When a white man gets ill he turn Blue..
When he sun bathes he turns brown
When is feeling fear he turn white..
When is angry turn Red.
I wonder who is coloured. A coloured or black skin person stay black skin no matter what.. I think we should redefine who is coloured nad who is not..lol

nicely said diamond. They have stirred people and make them aspire for something better not just because of what they did, it's greatly because of how they have surmounted the obstacles of being coloured and shone being coloured.
Obama and Mandela are so important BECAUSE of their colour. They can never be 'neutral' Brit.

Next time i meet Brit i aint gettin near him he really scares me specially those eye lashes :D
Scary Scary Monster Devil
Amoud, BritExpat is a cunning little polite gentleman I guess...lol

DaRude, are you implying that Brit is old? Or that he is such a certified demon that he taught the devil himself all his tricks?
Hmm, neither one is flattering.. ;)

You saw "thru" me :)
I am just stirring the topic up a bit, seeing as this isnt religious or bashing in anyway I thought this could turn out to be an interesting thread.
My comment is not intended to disagree, just perhaps I was trying to be a bit too thought provoking (aka troll lol)
Brit, are you taking the piss because I dont use a "u" in color?

hmmm.... to add to your list..
Kofi Annan...
You have a point.. In reality though we do tend to see people in colour or color..
My thoughts were from a different angle..
Let's say that jesse jackson was elected President.. I would tend to see him as a "Black president".. Purely my own perception and perhaps wrong.. However, with Obama , I don't see that..
Similarly, if I saw Sidney poitier in a lead role, I would think .."Leading Black actor", but with Will Smith, I don't do that..
I was just trying to explore the reasoning....
Michael Jackson still my favourite.......... lolz...
Peace.
Brit and UKEng... 'colored'... tsk tsk
I think these influencial people have to be seen for their race, as they have made great achievements. Perhaps not seeing them as "black or white" is a bit of our own desire to claim their victories as our own? Can we better relate to them if we see them as neutral?
Wee bit od trolling in the morning lol.

UK - Lenny Henry AS Trevor McDoughnut - freakin hilarious!!!
Did you Google it first?
Harry99.. The reason why I added Bill Morris was that during the eighties and the ninties he was the lone coloured person who was seen at the top of his proffession. You have every right to disagree.
Lenny Henry if he cannot make you laugh then I dont who can..lol

You're right.. When one sees Condi, one sees a powerful female secretary of state and not a coloured lady..
drac, the question shoud be, is Michael Jackson human? he's neither black or white and why in the first place should he change his skin color?
=Dura Lex Sed Lex=
Colin Powell
I wouldn't agree with Bill Morris.
Its true, seeing these people, you focus on the person, rather than the colour.. The have a certain quality about them..
Bill Morris
Sir Trevor Macdonald

let's don't forget Condoleezza Rice, the first black woman to serve Secretary of State in US. Her emphasis on supporting democratically elected governments faced challenges as Hamas captured a popular majority in Palestinian elections yet supported Islamist militance, and influential countries including Saudi Arabia and Egypt maintained authoritarian systems with US support.
You have a point.. They all command our respect and admiration.. Although Oprah, I'm not too sure of..
Michael Jackson.....hmmmmm,...wait a minute: he's white?
I didn't do it!
And I'll not do it again!
Pele
Ali
Oprah
Possibly something to do with respect.
