you will be charged at both ends of the chain

from memory 12 GBP in britain and varying rate here

banks offer a lower exchange rate than money exchanges (except western union which is a person to person service)

HSBC offer a service where u can have 1 free transfer per month, other banks may do so as well but from experience the cost, even with a free transfer are about the same as an exchange transfer

You can send cash through Wester Union to avoid taxation.

or

You can transfer money to UK using various methods like online bank transfer or normal wire transfer or cashier cheques etc but end of the year you need to file tax return for these remmittance.

Hope its cleared.

Bank-to-Bank transfers are very expensive, not in the transfer charges, but in the non-preferential exchange rate. Smaller exchange places offer better foreign exchange rates and they charge fixed tranfer fees of a max. of QR.50 (from my last 3yrs experience)

keep your bank account and send a transfer via a bank here but you will pay ridiculous fees!
