US gallery - Come and throw shoes at Dubya

Sometimes we slate America (and rightly so), but this shows the other side of the country. The ability to laugh at itself and its leader(s)..

A US art gallery has decided to capitalise on the popular political statement made in Iraq, with a "shoe throw" fundraiser.

For $1 a throw, visitors can hurl shoes covered in red paint at a large picture of Mr Bush.

City Councillor Eric Navickas - who opened the Mada Shell Gallery in Ashland, Oregon, with partner Amy Godard - slathered a layer of red paint on the soles of trainers, boots and sandals before people fired the footwear at an 8-foot image of Mr Bush.

Miss Godard said the exhibit is a "statement of solidarity" with Muntadar al-Zeidi, the Iraqi journalist who was arrested after hurling two shoes at Bush in protest during a Baghdad news conference last month. But it is also a chance for the gallery to raise money for future exhibits.

One contributor was 91-year-old Marjorie Mather.

"Wow, I didn't know that was going to be so much fun," she said, after smacking a shoe into the image of Mr Bush.

People from all over the world, including the USA, are playing the THROW THE SHOE AT BUSH games on line and all the late night comedian hosts have had a field day with this. Why not bring it to the fore front in a way of a fund raiser and give people a chance to laugh!

I seriously doubt these two art gallery owners are the only two in the US that have had this idea!

Good for them. I bet they raised a lot of money.

This is being done in jest and for a good cause.

I would draw the line at burning a country's flag.
